I have a pet peeve - mee hun kueh should be eaten from roadside stalls or hawker stalls, not poshy airconditioned restaurants. Grandma Ong has many outlets but i chose a dusty, warm, noisy and somewhat hazardous outlet to enjoy my bowl of carbs. First, Mee Hun Kueh needs a rich, intense base of anchovies to boil a soup that is full of flavor and taste. Next, Sayur manis is the key ingredient that pairs well with the dough pieces. No other veggies will bring out the full dough and anchovy flavor. Third, thin marinated pork slices, minced pork balls, fried shallots with oil, black fungus sliced thin, minced pork fried in oil and a generous spoon of crunchy fried anchovies will bring you back to the old days where your grandmother or mother would have a bowl waiting for you after school or lunch on weekends. Grandma Ong doesn't have ALL the ingredients i listed, but it comes close. Close enough to my heart to want a bowl of it each time i arrive in JB from KL.

Grandma Ong’s Hawker Stall is a hidden gem amidst a bustling sea of hawkers. Unlike their restaurant-style branch, this hawker spot offers a unique, laid-back dining experience. The charm lies in the freedom of movement—grab a seat anywhere in the free seating area and savor your food without being confined to one spot. This flexible setup encourages you to explore other stalls too, making it a true culinary adventure. Despite being a hawker stall, Grandma Ong’s maintains a high standard of hygiene, ensuring the food is clean and safe. During peak hours, it can get pretty crowded, and parking might be a challenge. However, there is open-air parking available along the streets. They operate in the evenings and are closed on Mondays. Whether you’re a regular or a first-timer, Grandma Ong’s warm, homely dishes will keep you coming back for more. The food is delicious, making it a truly wicked choice.

Food is inconsistent Went at 1030pm, soup tasted like water Service was non existent, asked for more chili and etc due to how blunt the food tasted - never arrived Speed - fast, cos they prolly don't give a flying fish abt what they serve Cost - 5 stars, but what's the point of it being cheap when food is inconsistent and at times sucks? Best rating I'll ever give is 3.5 stars, there are much better MHK around, this stall is just purely overrated
