Lao Guang Claypot Rice 老广煲仔饭 — Restaurant in Johor

They served a wide variety of Cantonese Claypot Rice! Been coming here for claypot rices, specifically the Dong Bo Pork Claypot Rice and the Secret Sauce Seabass Claypot Rice made it to the top of my favourite list! Loved it! Not a taste I can find elsewhere.

Until very recently, the owner extended the menu to include a wide selection of cooked dishes, including the Marmite Boneless Chicken, Mala Popcorn Chicken, Sweet Sour Pork Belly, Sweet Sauce Pork Ribs, Asam Fish, Curry Fish, Sizzling Prawns & Squid etc etc, and believe it or not, NONE to my disappointment! While tastes are highly subjective by individual, this is my first time to hit bingo for all the dishes! Photos shared are taken over weeks, been here with family every weekend over the last 2 months and the tasting journey continues as the extended menu is just too wide 🤣

Lastly, a must try is their stewed soups! Individually stewed with pork ribs and fresh ingredients, reminds me taste of yesteryears - simple, heart warming and soul-healing! No kidding!!

Disappointing Experience at Lao Guang Claypot – Overhyped and Underwhelming

Tried Lao Guang Claypot in JB after seeing some glowing reviews online, but honestly, it didn’t live up to the hype. The claypot rice lacked the signature elements that make this dish comforting and satisfying — no fragrant, smoky crust at the bottom, and the rice was normal than flavourful. The chicken pieces were dry and lacked seasoning, and the dark sauce tasted flat, doing little to lift the dish.

Service was average, and while the place seemed busy, it felt more like a trend-fueled crowd than actual returning fans. It’s hard to understand how it’s received so many good reviews — perhaps expectations were set too high. Sadly, Lao Guang didn’t deliver the comforting, umami-packed claypot rice experience I was hoping for....

I was at Punggol One with 5 family members with 2 Claypot Chicken and 1 Claypot Bonjour. Due to the Claypot is hot and to prevent any burn when touching the pot, I request 5 bowls for this order. However, the staff refused to give us 5 bowls instead gave us three. They also told us any additional bowls request are to additional 20 cents per bowl. My queries is: What is the concern if I request additional bowls as there isn't any crowds on that day. The additional bowls that I paid is it going to bring back home or throw it away? Lastly, the additional bowls that requested is return to centralise washing counter and doesn't require to stall staff to wash. I really don't why can't we request additional bowls during...
