HORRIBLE SERVICE AND FOOD!
I used to came here many years ago before they expanded to the shop beside with aircon! They didn’t have aircon last time and their soup was so much tastier!
We had to order first at the non aircon area, was given a queue number (Mercedes Benz). So apparently you need to head over to the air con area to tell the guy assigning tables for him to write down for him to plan! I WASNT TOLD ABOUT THIS!!! so we went for a walk around the place, shopped around, came back, sat down for a good 10-15 minutes only to realize that the group that just came when I came back shopping nearby went in! Went forward to tell that and he gave us a table almost immediately!
After our order came, we ordered more ingredients to put into the soup! The additional ingredients didn’t come even after we finished our soup! We had to chase them again for it!
After finishing our meal, when we go to the cashier to pay! WE WERE CHARGED RICE WHICH WE DIDNT ORDER AT ALL! How can the staff assume that we will get rice! I swear we didn’t get rice at all! lucky we were sharp enough and check our receipt.
Soup and food is a fail! The you tiao is not even crispy! Soup not tasty! I DO NOT RECOMMEND! Never will I...
Read moreRestaurant Shoo Huat is one of those long-established names in Johor Bahru that locals and regular visitors alike seem to swear by. This old-school claypot-style Bak Kut Teh spot has clearly stood the test of time. I was there during a public holiday, and as expected, the place was bustling — a long queue formed for the air-conditioned section, but I managed to get a seat at the non-air-conditioned area almost immediately.
The menu offers a wide variety of add-ons — from the usual you tiao and preserved vegetables to more adventurous options like intestines, pig kidney, tofu skin, and enoki mushrooms. The soup itself was rich, peppery, and aromatic, though admittedly quite heavy on MSG.
The standout dish for me was the braised pork knuckles - tender, glossy, and absolutely packea with flavour. It was a real flavour bomb and paired beautifully with a bowl of rice.
Overall, I had a hearty and satisfying meal. Despite the crowd and the slightly intense seasoning, it's easy to see why Restaurant Shoo Huat continues to draw such a loyal following. A good stop for anyone craving that nostalaic, comforting soupy claypot style...
Read moreCame by here a few times and it is by far one of my most favourite Malaysian Bak Ku Teh store around in JB.
Usually will order extra ingredients to add with their signature dishes, as well as youtiao into the order mix, depending on the size of the crowd I’m with.
Their clear Bak Ku Teh soup base is just amazing and tasteful and you can always ask for a free top-up of the soup when you wanted more.
Always had a very tasteful meal when coming here and occasionally I may order the nearby herbal chicken from Teck Sing to add to the mix, especially when eating with a large crowd, which really adds to the flavour of the foods!
To take note of their new flow, which is to first order from the right-side (Non-aircon older shopfront with chefs cooking on claypot just next door), where you will then be issued a number after you make your food orders, before you head over to the left-side to get a seating placement.
This place is definitely highly recommended and at a reasonable price, and I will come back again for...
