A quick look up on good food in JB and I was recommended this Chinese Restaurant. The amazing reviews piqued my interest and I was convinced to see how good their food was. Parking can be a challenge here during meal hours so do come prepared. I came at a odd hours and I did not have to queue but judging from the waiting chairs lined up outside the shop, I would assume large crowds flock to this place. Upon seated, I was given the menu and I liked how straightforward it was with the dishes and prices. I got 2 chef recommendations namely the steamed fish in soy sauce ala cantonese style and the nam lu deep fried pork. I opted for the tail portion for my fish and turned out to be a sizeable one (minimum weight is enforced for fish dishes fyi). The soy sauce was sweet and savoury in taste which paired perfectly with my rice and the fish meat. Speaking of which, the meat was fresh and firm with no signs of fishy smell. The nam lu deep fried pork was also a commendable dish. The pork meat was well marinated and seasoned evenly which was then deep fried in a nice light batter. I also enjoyed how the meat was tender and moist without excessive fat.
Update: I have made a returning visit to sample more of their dishes. I ordered their recommended curry fish meat and a plate of sweet and sour pork. I was happy with how the pork turned out. The thick sweet and sour sauce beautifully glazed every piece of meat which were already nicely seasoned and tender to every bite. The curry fish meat on the other hand only tasted average. I felt that the curry broth lacked that richness I would typically associate with JB curries. Despite the noticeable presence and taste of coconut milk, lemongrass and spices, the ingredients felt like somehow they did not blend with each other to produce a congruent...
Read moreI think there's really no need to further introduce this restaurant as it is already so famous. Haha. Please do come early if you don't want to queue up for 1-2 hours outside during peak hours. However if you come in pairs, you might have a chance to jump queue as they have a couple of 2 seater inside the restaurant and from my experience, most of the patrons there comes in high group and you have a chance to skip the queue if you come in pairs. Haha.
Food wise, there's really no need to say anymore, just need to order their famed zi bao ji, paper wrapped chicken! The sauce is dman flavourful and thick and full of herbs and spices. Truly one of the best paper wrap chicken I have eaten.. I think you can't find any wrap chicken that taste as good as Teck Sing one in sg. The chicken is also very tender and soft. The kampong chicken is good for 2 person max. If you come in large group, remember to order more!
Do take note that they sell frozen ready to steam paper wrap chicken over at their counter, so if you're looking to dabao back, you're in luck!
Some of their other dishes that you might want to try are the indo prawns. It is very reasonably priced and the prawns they used are so big and so damn fresh. Very value for money and taste super awesome. For veggies wise, you can try their Kang kong or baby kailan. For tofu lovers, please go ahead and order their hotplate tofu as well.
Enjoy your paper wrapped chicken and go early to...
Read moreeveryone ive taken here for a meal left bookmarking this restaurant and swearing to come back! 100% success guaranteed.
cant come to teck sing and not order their signature Paper Baked Chicken - think Fish en Papillote but chicken and herbal. even tho its baked, the paper encasement cooks the chicken and herbs into a warm comforting half stew, resulting in fork-tender flesh.
also ordered the Claypot Drunken Prawns (small) - the best way to ensure ur eating freshest prawns is to have them in this method of cooking. prawns were predicatably sweet, fresh and succulent. the herbal broth was warm and nourishing with a nice blend of sweet-bitter.
but the star of the show, the silent showstopper, was the Stir Fried Bittergourd Egg. not only was the wok hei game strong, the bittergourd was sliced so thinly yet somehow still retained bite and texture. a mindbendingly delicious dish! (much prefer this to the sambal kangkong!)
love how the portions for most dishes can be customized to feed smaller groups. the 3 dishes i ordered + plain rice were just enough to feed 2 diners.
no reservations are required but it can get really busy with long queues from 7pm. i like to come here between 530pm and 630pm latest. its also easier to get a table if you’re dining in pairs.. larger groups best to call ahead or...
