We were looking for a place for a tea break after brunch and came across Sek Tong, conveniently located across from Nam Heong. Sek Tong exudes the vibe of a Hong Kong food street, which visually appealed to us. We decided to try it since the queue was slightly shorter, and we had a party of 11, including kids.
Despite our large group, the wait wasn’t too long. We managed to secure two tables, thanks to the supervisor who arranged for us to sit back-to-back. We appreciated this effort.
The menu was divided into two sets: one for regular dishes and another specifically for desserts. Both were attractively designed, with a magazine and traditional calendar style, adding to the already pleasant ambiance.
Ordering was convenient and easy through an app, and the food service was relatively prompt.
In terms of food quality, it was surprisingly average given the generally high expectations of food quality in Malaysia. However, the kids enjoyed it.
A surprising downside was that, despite being a Hong Kong cafe, the menu lacked such fundamentals as Hong Kong milk tea and coffee. All the available drinks were cold, with no hot drink options, which was rather strange.
The dessert was the main highlight. The mango pomelo sago was pretty good despite some negative comments we later read (we didn’t read any reviews prior to selecting this place). While we’ve had better and found it a bit on the sweeter side, it was...

One of the best things about Sek Tong at Mid Valley Southkey is their offering of both main dishes and traditional Hong Kong-style desserts. We especially appreciated the light bites menu — the portions were satisfying without being too heavy.
On our first visit, we tried the Mango Pomelo Sago ($12.80) and the Boiled Pear with Peach Gum ($15.90). Unfortunately, the Mango Pomelo Sago was quite underwhelming — it lacked pomelo, had only a few large sago pearls, and came with minimal mango. For the price, it didn’t feel like good value.
In contrast, the Boiled Pear with Peach Gum was a pleasant surprise. While slightly more expensive, it came in a generous portion with well-balanced ingredients. It felt thoughtfully prepared and worth the price.
Revisit – 22 June 2025 We decided to give it another shot and ordered the same desserts. This time, the Mango Pomelo Sago showed noticeable improvement — with more visible mango cubes, pomelo, and sago that made the bowl feel much more satisfying. It was a pleasant surprise and a step in the...
Read moreService was pretty adequate but the food quality is so so.. but do go for the IG worthy decor and set up.
Came here as the restaurant really looked very nice With it’s decor looking like a Hong Kong street. The decor was very nostalgic with retro movie posters and menus which looked like a calendar and a vintage magazine.
Ordered 3 dishes and I quite liked the recommended noodles with fried dumpling. Noodles was qq and the chilli was really on the sweet side, not too spicy. The fried chicken and rice was good. Not oily at all. The Yee mee was quite a disappointment. Very wet and tasted quite bland. Thankfully the staff was able to bring us some chilli which saved the day.
I find that the portion of the food could be much bigger as a really hungry person could just wolf down 2 portions of mains.
Would I revisit? Maybe for the desserts (the peach gum dessert looked quite delish) as I did not try them this round but not really for the mains. But I do wonder if it would be worth my time as the reviews for the desserts are...
