I recently had the chance to dine at Pahpai Steakhouse in Taman Sentosa and ordered their ribeye steak and escargot. Unfortunately, I found the experience to be rather lackluster and nothing out of the ordinary.
Let's start with the ribeye steak. I had hoped for a juicy, flavorful cut that would leave a lasting impression. However, what I received fell short of my expectations. The steak lacked the desired tenderness, and while it had some flavor, it failed to stand out from other steakhouses I have visited in the past. It was a disappointment, as I was anticipating a remarkable steak experience.
Moving on to the escargot, it was similarly underwhelming. Escargot, when prepared well, can be a delightful delicacy. Unfortunately, the escargot at Pahpai Steakhouse did not meet the mark. The snails were slightly overcooked, resulting in a rubbery texture, and the garlic and herb butter sauce lacked the richness and depth of flavor that one would expect from this dish. It was a letdown that left me wanting more.
While the service and ambiance at Pahpai Steakhouse were satisfactory, the food itself did not leave a lasting impression. If you are searching for an exceptional steakhouse experience or craving expertly prepared escargot, I would recommend exploring other options in the Taman Sentosa area. Pahpai Steakhouse, unfortunately, did not deliver the memorable dining experience I...
Read moreOpened since 1995, Pahpai Steakhouse is a favourite restaurant among Johoreans celebrating their occasions here. The restaurant name, Pahpai is a play on words, Popeye, a pop culture cartoon character created by an American Cartoonist. This place reminded me of The Ship Restaurant in Singapore. The interior has the appearance of the 90’s. There was a TV playing Popeye cartoon, while 90’s soft dance music was heard in the restaurant.
I observed a steady stream of diners coming into the restaurant despite being 9pm on a Friday. The staff are friendly and attentive. They enthusiastically greet all visiting customers with ‘Welcome To Popeye’!
The selection here is wide, from local, Asian to Western comprising of Soup, Salad, Spaghetti, Pizza, Burger, Chicken, Fish, Beef, Lamb and Lobster. I ordered a New Zealand Sirloin Steak (Medium Rare) with Black Pepper Sauce. The food arrived in less than 10 mins. The cost of the meal is RM53.35.
Open till 2am, this place makes a great late night supper spot. I will drop by to have a meal here if I crave for old-school...

To our surprise, it’s actually a cosy Western-style restaurant with a charming Popeye theme. Yes, they do serve alcohol—and even lobsters! You’ll spot live prawns and lobsters swimming in tanks, and vacuum-sealed beef on display in the chiller, which gives a good sense of their commitment to freshness and quality.
Prices are quite reasonable, especially considering the setup and the standard of food.
Here’s what we had:
Chicken Chop – Nicely done.
Mushroom Soup – A bit too thick for our liking.
Lamb Shank – Served in thinner cuts instead of a whole shank; would’ve preferred a chunkier cut. That said, no overpowering lamb smell, which was great.
Mushroom Ham Pizza – Really good. Thin, saucy, and crusty—just how we like it.
Fish & Chips – Crispy on the outside, tender and flaky inside. Solid dish.
Overall, a pleasant dining experience. We’ll definitely be back to explore more...
