Stepped in this beautifully decorated 80s themed kopitiam to have breakfast before doing our nails opposite.
Loved the vibe, the old stuffs littered all over the place. They even have the old sewing machines as dining tables. Truly nostalgic!
We ordered curry mee big family, egg tart, special custard toast, crysanthemum tea and a cham ice.
Everything was good. I loved how the curry was flavourful even though it was on the watery side. Ingredients were aplenty, including cuttlefish, tau pok, tau kee, egg, beansprouts, a chicken thigh and fishpaste beancurd skin. So yums. Egg tart was a flaky type and the soft custardy egg middle. Quite fragrant and smooth. Cham ice was thick and shiok. Probably 1 of the best I have tasted in JB. Some might find it too over for their liking but I love it.
Will definitely return for other menu items.
2nd visit. Ordered kway teow goreng seafood, nasi lemak rendang ayam, soft-boiled eggs, cham ice, horlicks and anggoli fish soup without noodles.
Kway teow goreng served with a couple of prawns and sotong. Fried like SG-style with dark soya sauce. Fragrant and not too oily. Taste is good.
Nasi lemak's rice was hot and fragrant. The rendang chicken was filled with the correct spices, really yummilicious. Sambal that came along with it was perfect, enough spiciness.
Soft-boiled eggs boiled to perfection.
Fish soup was a last minute decision to try. Soup was tremendously tasty. Served with ginger slices, yam slices, cubes of anggoli fish and sliced cabbages. Well-paired with a mild sour spicy chilli. Shiok.
3rd visit Ordered Boiled Chicken w Mee Halus, Salted Egg Chicken Fried Rice, Salted Egg French Fries, Ribena w Lemon and Kopi mix Horlicks. To my dismay, mee halus was not to my liking. The noodle tasted bland, dry and soft in my opinion. The boiled chicken was dry too. The only good thing about this dish was the sauce that accompanied the chicken. Salted egg chicken fried rice was good. Fried rice had wok-hei and reminds me of the old-school fried rice taste. The salted egg chicken was nice. Salted egg french fries seems literally submerged into salted egg sauce prior to serving. Slightly overwhelming
Both drinks were done...
Read moreWorst place to visit - never been so disappointed ever in JB before. From service to food, it was such a bad experience here.
Herbal Duck meesua - waited for nearly 40mins before it was served. Soup wasnât hot (it was lukewarm) Meesua was partially cooked, it was like eating a mouthful of dough (it was the gross) Saving the best for the last, the duck was served chilling cold (!!) - it left all of us speechless. Informed the staff but she conveniently blamed it on the lacked of chef manpower. Offered to replace - which came within 10mins for the next bowl, but sadly it wasnât much of an improvement.
Roasted chicken Mee Halus - Again, noodle was partially-cooked but that wasnât the key takeaway here. Look at the atrocious plating of the roasted chicken. Excuse me? Are these leftovers from previous table or are you feeding pigeons with such plating?
Atmosphere: Rather chaotic, noisy at 830am. Place was packed hence making it difficult to reach out to service staff.
Ultimately, what an utter disaster and waste of time for XY 80s Kopitiam - will never even recommend this to my arch nemesis. Will never ever return. I have no idea whatâs the hype about...
Read moreVery beautiful, nostalgic, retro environment. Quite crowded on a sat morning when itâs quite ulu.
There is a free snack bar (all the old school snacks - many options) at the front of the shop, and they sell the usual local Malaysian food suspects.
As it was 10min after we finished breakfast down the road, this was second round for us. We ordered a French toast that was superbly made! Very fluffy, and the toast was drenched in butter syrup and kaya. The banana fritters were not too oily, and nicely fried - huge! The egg tart is one of the better ones I have tasted around as the pastry is more buttery and the custard soft and wiggly. Definitely better than the oriental ones.
Their drinks were amazing. My friends had the Ho Kar Sai and Sai Kar Ho and woah they were huge and tasted great.
We took many photos w the place and had many fun talks about the antiques around. The comforting part is the aircon! V shiok on a hot day.
Service is very good and attentive too. The egg tart box was too huge so I requested for individual packing and they did! Toilets...
