My curry had so much oil in it I was afraid the US would invade the place, this could be forgiven if it at least tasted good. For 40 ringgit I expected to be amazed, and I was amazed, amazed at how this chef was allowed into the kitchen.
The dish was an oily mess dressed with a few tired sprigs of coriander on top, the flavour must have called in sick because no matter how hard I searched for it, it was not present. If I think I can make a better curry than the one I have at an Indian restaurant, then I usually don’t think it’s worth eating there. In this case, a cat off the street would have a decent chance of making a nicer curry.
My skin remains pale despite my efforts to tan on Langkawi’s lovely beaches. Yet for once I wasn’t the palest one in the room. The Naan I had ordered to accompany my dish took that prize. My friend and I both looked down at it in morbid curiosity. It looked like what would happen if your child somehow got into the pantry, and started mixing flour and water and whatever else they fancied and stuck it in the microwave for 4 or 5 seconds. Undercooked and a bit soft, a sad steam emanated from the monster. Its creators had no sympathy for it. I pitied it. We reluctantly put it out of its misery, a short, tasteless life for poor Frankenstein Naan.
Looking hard for positives here, the service was prompt(maybe too prompt). The rice was nice (although 6 ringgit extra on top of an already overpriced dish). And that’s all she wrote.
It was quite an expensive meal as well by local standards. However, if they use my hard earned money to send their chef to culinary school, then I will consider it money well spent. Otherwise, I’ll feel an injustice will have been done to myself and my friend.
“Should have gone to McDonalds”, was the phrase on our lips as we returned home, defeated and with our...
