Underwater World Langkawi is one of the largest marine and freshwater aquariums in Southeast Asia, located near Pantai Cenang. Known for its combination of fun, education, and interactive experiences, it’s a popular destination for families, nature lovers, and anyone interested in sea life.

Highlights and Main Features:

Walk-Through Tunnel: The 15-meter underwater tunnel is a standout attraction, giving visitors an immersive 360-degree view as sharks, stingrays, groupers, and other fish swim overhead and around you. This experience is both surreal and exciting for adults and kids alike.

Penguinariums: The dedicated penguin sections—one for African Penguins and another for adorable Rockhopper Penguins—are consistently praised. Visitors enjoy watching feeding sessions and observing the penguins waddle and swim. These segments are a favorite for many guests, especially children.

Feeding Sessions: Scheduled feedings for penguins, fur seals, otters, and in the main tunnel and ray arena add interactive and entertaining elements to the visit. Many guests recommend timing your trip to catch at least one of these feedings for a livelier experience.

Variety of Exhibits: The aquarium is divided into themed sections:

Tropical Rainforest with exotic birds and river fish.

Freshwater and Marine Zones with over 4,000 species, including vibrant corals, anemones, giant clams, jellyfish, and even an Arapaima—the world’s largest freshwater fish.

Sub-Antarctic and Temperate Zones with fur seals and more penguins.

Koi Pond, Seashell Display, Reptilian Section, Coral Reef Section, and a Venomous Creatures Section for fascinating variety.

Visitor Experience:

The attraction is praised for its clean, well-maintained facilities, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and its engaging educational focus.

The aquarium is air-conditioned, making it a refreshing stop during a hot day.

The experience is relatively compact and can be enjoyed in 1–2 hours, making it suitable for families with children.

Feeding sessions and educational talks are frequently mentioned as highlights.

Minor Downsides:

Some visitors mention that a few animal enclosures, especially for seals and penguins, seem a little small and could use more space.

While the exhibits are impressive, those who have visited larger world-class aquariums may find it less extensive but still enjoyable and worthwhile.

Tips:

Try to visit during scheduled feeding times for the best experience.

The exit leads through a shopping area where duty-free items and souvenirs are sold.

Ticket prices (2024-2025): Adults RM62, kids (3-12 years) RM50, discounts for MyKad holders and seniors.

Conclusion: Underwater World Langkawi is a well-kept, entertaining, and educational aquarium that offers a close-up look at marine life with highlights like their walk-through tunnel and penguin feedings. It’s highly recommended for families, couples, or anyone with an interest in aquatic creatures, especially if you’re in the...

Before this, I already made a review on Google Review regarding my experience at Underwater World Langkawi. But maybe there are some problems that my review cannot reach you guys. And after having a chat with Mr. Megat, he asks me to check my review—maybe there are some violations or so on and edit my review. So here is my review.

I went to Underwater World Langkawi about a couple months ago, in December 2023.

Such a wonderful experience! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. Starting from the rain forest, where we saw flamingos, cockatoos, and other birds. The performance from Renzo, who is the fur seal, was astonishing! Later on, we watched the penguin feeding session. The penguins look cute and adorable. The other fish also look cute and adorable. Clownfish, damsels, etc.

While we are focusing on watching the stingrays, one of your employees approaches us to share information regarding bamboo sharks. The keeper talks are also very informative and useful! The keeper, Miss Ainul showed us bamboo shark eggs and gave some information. Her tone of speech and how she dealt with me are very impressive! Her smiling is also charming and makes my wife melt with her kindness.

We also meet Mr. Megat, whom I assume is a customer service representative. He plays such a good role in his job. As an Arab from Egypt, we really love grouper fish because we eat a lot of grouper, especially red grouper. Mr. Megat's knowledge regarding groupers was amazing! And what amazed me is that he can speak ARABIC!!! Me and my wife were so amazed because there are Malaysians who can speak Arabic confidently and fluently. He guides us from the marine section until the exit section. What a nice guy and good Muslim!

And what impressed me is that the keeper, Miss Ainnul is not just a keeper but she is also a diver and can dive into the tank to feed the fish. She looks calm during the session.

Both Miss Ainnul and Mr. Megat show professionalism in their work. You guys should raise both their salaries because they are compassionate and dedicated to their work. Please take care of their welfare and keep them as your employees because they are your assets. ! ﺟَﻴِّﺪ

Malaysian people are very kind and good. Hospitality wow!

It is definitely worth visiting this aquarium. إن شاء الله we will come back...

Langkawi Underwater World is a mesmerizing marine attraction that offers visitors a glimpse into the captivating underwater world of Malaysia. Situated in Pantai Cenang, it is one of the largest aquariums in Southeast Asia, spanning over 60,000 square feet.

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a spectacular display of marine life housed in various tanks and exhibits. From colorful coral reefs to majestic sharks and graceful stingrays, the diversity of aquatic species on display is truly breathtaking. One of the highlights is the gigantic underwater tunnel, where visitors can walk through a transparent acrylic tunnel surrounded by sharks, turtles, and schools of tropical fish, providing an immersive underwater experience like no other.

In addition to the main aquarium, Langkawi Underwater World also features interactive touch pools where visitors can get up close and personal with marine creatures such as starfish and sea cucumbers. Educational presentations and feeding sessions are regularly scheduled, providing valuable insights into the behaviors and habitats of the marine inhabitants.

The facility is well-maintained, with clean and spacious viewing areas that allow visitors to observe the marine life comfortably. The staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic, eager to share information and answer any questions visitors may have.

When I heard there were penguins here, I had to go. I know UWL is small compared to aquariums in other places, but this was my first visit to an aquarium like this and loved every bit. The place is very well maintained, although the ticket rates seem a bit high. The entry free for a malaysian is 36 MYR while the entry fee for a non-malaysian is 46 MYR. If you have kids, DO NOT MISS THIS! They will love it. The only thing I enjoyed more than seeing all the attractions here was the kids going ooh and aah over all the fishes, penguins and seals :-D. When you first enter the aquarium, there will be some lizards and such held in glass cases along with information cards. Following the path will take you to a big enclosure with natural sunlight which is home to some birds, and a big aquarium in the middle - Loved the turtle inside this one! Next, you have to go through a doorway and the underwater attractions start. The first is the seals, I think - hard to take pictures, they move so fast! Then comes the penguins - the ones who are swimming are hard to take pictures as they are fast, but the ones on the land - cute as hell! There is an underwater tunnel where you can watch them swim all over. There are different varieties, check my pics below. After the penguins, there are many other species to see inside. There is an underwater pathway with small sharks and other fishes. I was dumbstruck on seeing a huge fish (you will know what I am talking about when you see it!). I think it is located at the starting of this passage on the right side (the very first exhibit). Make sure to visit this place - it should take only an hour or so at most, but if you are a fond of taking a lot of pictures, then maybe 2 hours. It is right near cenang beach so you can combine both for an afternoon+evening. It is better to come here during the afternoon, as it will be hot outside.

We had a lovely time at Underwater World Langkawi, and it turned out to be a fantastic experience, especially for kids. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, and there's a great variety of marine life on display — from colorful tropical fish to adorable penguins and sea creatures that really fascinate the little ones. The place is very well-organised, with clear signages and a smooth flow from one section to another. It's easy to navigate, even with young children. The cleanliness is commendable — everything from the tanks to the walkways was very neatly maintained, which made the visit all the more pleasant. Another big plus was the ample parking space. We didn’t have to worry about finding a spot or walking a long distance — very convenient for families or anyone arriving by car. The only downside to our visit was that the rockhopper penguin, which was highlighted as one of their main attractions, was not available. It was disappointing since it was something we were really looking forward to. It would have been great if this had been communicated beforehand, either on their website or at the entrance. Despite that, it’s still a great value experience and definitely worth a visit if you're in Langkawi — especially with kids. I’d happily recommend it for families looking for an educational and fun outing.
