As a passionate food enthusiast, I recently embarked on a culinary journey at Yellow Café Cenang Beach, enticed by the promise of tantalizing flavors and exquisite dishes. However, what unfolded was a disheartening tale of culinary disappointment and customer service mishaps. Let me start by addressing the lamb shank, a dish that held the promise of succulence and tenderness. Alas, it fell short of expectations as it was marred by an overwhelming saltiness that overshadowed any semblance of enjoyment. The barracuda fillet, intended to be a highlight, arrived at the table old and burnt, rendering it practically inedible. Seeking respite from the culinary letdown, I opted for a safer choice: chicken wings. To my dismay, these wings seemed to have been part of a pre-cooked, frozen batch that had been languishing in the freezer for far too long. Despite my hunger, I couldn't ignore the lackluster quality of the meal. Expressing my discontent, I brought the matter to the attention of the waiter, who seemed to acknowledge the shortcomings of the dishes. However, my dissatisfaction was met with resistance when a white manager intervened, dismissing my feedback and adamantly defending the preparation methods of the kitchen. She cited the volume of plates served that day as proof of the restaurant's culinary prowess, conveniently overlooking the undeniable fact that quality should never be sacrificed for quantity. While I understand that every establishment may encounter off days, the refusal to acknowledge constructive criticism and the prioritization of brand image over customer satisfaction was deeply disheartening. As a patron who values transparency and quality in dining experiences, I left Yellow Café Pantai Cenang feeling not only unsatisfied but also disillusioned. In conclusion, while Yellow Café Pantai Cenang may boast a bustling atmosphere and an extensive menu, my recent visit left much to be desired in terms of culinary execution and customer service. It is my hope that this review serves as constructive feedback, prompting the necessary improvements needed to regain the trust and satisfaction of...
Read moreRude Staff, Poor Service & Unwelcoming Attitude – Never Coming Back
Our experience at Yellow Beach Restaurant was extremely disappointing, especially in terms of customer service. From the moment we walked in, the waiter at the entrance was unwelcoming and came across as rude. There was no greeting, no smile—just an attitude that made us feel like we weren’t even wanted there.
We initially planned to chill for a bit, ordering a few beers along with some pizza, calamari, and fries while waiting for the rest of our family to arrive. After about an hour, they joined us. Since the spot we were sitting at was a bit cramped, we were standing around briefly, discussing among ourselves how to rearrange or move to a better spot.
Out of nowhere, the owner—an older white guy—came over and spoke to us in an extremely rude and condescending manner, basically telling us to move away. As paying customers, he could have easily approached us with some respect, asked if we needed help finding another table, or tried to assist in any way. But instead, his tone and attitude were aggressive, and that escalated into a heated argument between him, the staff, and us.
What made it worse was the clear assumption that we were foreigners. Their entire attitude changed when we started speaking Malay, and only then did they back off a little. That kind of behavior shows a clear bias, and frankly, felt racist. Locals or not, no one deserves to be treated like that in a place where we’re spending money.
The entire experience was uncomfortable, and the lack of basic hospitality was shocking. This place needs a serious lesson in how to treat customers with respect. Definitely not returning, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who expects decent service and a welcoming...
Read moreThis café/restaurant is located right on one edge of the Cenang Beach. We visited on Christmas Eve, so understandably, the entire place was packed to the brim. The venue features live music in the evenings, which sounded great. The food tasted good—we ordered a Hawaiian pizza. The combination of pineapple and cheese was excellent, especially when paired with the spicy chili sauce. The drinks were per usual standard. Prices are slightly on the higher side, but that’s expected and reasonable given the prime location and lively atmosphere. I didn’t mind paying, as the overall vibe of the café was worth it.
However, one drawback was the lack of service coordination amongst the staff members. They didn't interact with each other, clearly. I WASN’T pleased with the attitude of one of the staff members (a tall man assisting with orders on the upstairs deck). He seemed unsure about his own policies. Initially, another staff member directed us to the upstairs deck, saying the lower section was 'full'. But when we got there, this man told us to go back downstairs, claiming the upstairs section was "for primarily food." If we wanted drinks only, we'd have to go down. Oddly enough, we couldn't find any "segregation" when we went downstairs as food was being served here too, and there was a table available. Why were we even sent upstairs in the first place, then?
This lack of coordination among staff was frustrating and unnecessary. Why inconvenience guests by making them switch tables mid-service?
While I loved the food, drinks, and ambience, this incident left a sour note. This might need improvement, especially given the high footfall...
