Shin Hottokitchin @ Sunway Velocity — Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur

This place seems to have earned a surprisingly high 4.8 rating, but in reality, it’s closer to a 3.5 at best. The overall quality is very average.

Many of the staff appear to be foreign hires who unfortunately struggle with even basic communication, often needing assistance from a local Chinese manager to interact with customers.

The food is mostly cooked and lacks authentic Japanese flavour. At best, it seems like they use some Japanese sauces to add a hint of taste, but it doesn’t go much beyond that.

On the plus side, the pricing is relatively affordable, making it decent value if you’re just looking for a quick, no-fuss meal.

However, the alcohol pricing is excessive… marked up to nearly three times the supplier cost, which feels totally...

I ordered the Chicken Katsu Don, and I have to say it was absolutely terrible. The taste was off, the texture was unpleasant, and it was just a huge disappointment. I didn’t want to waste money, so I forced myself to eat some of it, but honestly, it was a struggle.

Worried the portion might be small, I also added two tamago and wow, that was a mistake. That tamago was the worst thing I’ve ever tasted. It smelled so bad, almost like it was made from spoiled eggs. I don’t know what happened in the kitchen that day, but that’s not acceptable.

I rarely leave complaints, but this experience really deserves one. Please take this seriously and look into your food quality. No one should have to eat...

Food: we ordered sushi, chuka idako and some rice bowls. The taste of rice bowls are so so, just like the normal rice you can eat in any Japanese restaurant, but the price is higher than the restaurant out there. I suggest to go Sushi Zanmai instead. The sushi and chuka isako disappointed us as the ingredients are not fresh.

Service: only one waitress service us well, other waiters and waitress just playing around in the restaurant with the boss’s son.

Environment: clean, but noisy. Because the son of the boss been playing around, making noise and shouting.

Overall not worth the money we spent. 5 person total spend RM280....
