Our second visit to David's has left us simply speechless and frankly, utterly and completely satisfied, I urge you to come dine in at David's should you ever be in the area.
Previously, we also had a great time but it was nothing compared to the immaculate service and food we have received this time probably because we were earlier this time. The staff was consistently attentive and catered to us wholeheartedly.
Furthermore, the food was still out of this world. I personally find the fish pie, shrimp bisque and chocolate au tarte to be the best variant that I have ever had. Amazing! š¤©
The fish pie as previously mentioned was full of flavourful texture that had complimentary flavours paired with sauces that just screams harmony in your taste buds.
The shrimp bisque albeit me being not a fan of shellfish soup, was full of strong flavours with fresh and high quality seafood especially the fish egg which elevated the entire dish as each spoonful was just pure goodness.
Last but not least, the chocolate au tarte was naturally sweet and savoury while not being too hard on the taste buds. It's impact on your taste buds with each and every bite leaves you with a bittersweet aftertaste that begs you to order it again. However I do recommend sharing this as it can be very heavy after a few bites.
Moreover, while our previous visit brought us to the bistro's second floor, we were seated on the first floor for this visit and I must say, I personally prefer the homely atmosphere of the first floor as it reminds one of a typical french bistro but each floor definitely hasitd own charms.
Overall, David's Bistro so far will be one of the few full 5 star restaurants on my page.
Thank you for reading my review š.
(Previous Review) First time visiting, Cafe-Bistrot David in TTDI has always seemed elusive due to the difficulty of getting a seat as it is always jam packed. However should one be lucky to book one like me for this particular evening, you can't help but feel some excitement when entering. I was led to the second floor of the restaurant that presented itself to be rather lavish and luxurious with greetings from the staff. In terms of the food, the fish pie was out of this world, the texture accompanied by the sauces were a delight to savour and definitely worth every penny. The duck confit was also amazing, it's hard to explain the texture and flavour and it's not something anyone can enjoy but if you do , it's an enlightening experience. The sourdough bread starter was fantastic with a nice crisp, as well as the accompanied condiments of marmalade, butter and cheese flakes. However, the squid ink pasta was pretty mediocre and I wished it had more omph to it. Overall, a great experience and will definitely be coming again in the future for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTLDR; To my surprise, our dinner at the popular Cafe-Bistrot David was a disappointment (which seems contrary to most people's experience). This was mainly due to several service blunders during dinner, and also the noisy environment, which severely impacted the experience. Whilst the food portions were very generous, and of good quality, the acoustics of this place is horrendous and my dinner companions and I practically had to shout at each other to hold a conversation. For this price point and the lovely interior, I did not expect a school cafeteria vibe.
Further comments: It was an extremely busy evening and the servers messed up our orders 4 separate times. I witnessed them bring a reuben sandwich (which I had ordered) to the next table, whose party had arrived and ordered after us. I initially shrugged this off, but around 3 - 5 minutes later I watched in horror as a waiter lifted it from the neighbouring table and non-chalantly, unapologetically offer it to me instead. I declined to accept it because other patrons would have been talking over the sandwich and also it would have cooled down substantially. Whilst they did bring me a (supposedly) fresh plate, I personally don't think the matter was handled very professionally. Later in the evening, we had 3 different drinks mistakenly brought to our table, at separate intervals. Very distracting, and just not a good look at all.
Feedback: I truly appreciate the 1 lady (maybe front of house?) who came over towards the end of the night to apologise for the drink mix-ups and the fact that the table next to us got their food first (albeit arriving much later than us), but no one else had that displayed that level of professionalism. Perhaps the team should be trained further to improve on this front.
It would also be great if curtains or some other sound-absorbing material can line the walls to improve the acoustics, because we were unable to enjoy the ambiance due to the noise; not sure why other reviewers didn't struggle with this, perhaps our table was at a particularly vulnerable spot.
Conclusion: Whilst our food was quite nice and enjoyable, especially the truffle fries and the pies, at this price point I feel there are many other alternatives with much...

Similar to previous experiences, Zar Chi is always attentive but other servers still seem like they don't know what's going on - always reverting to her. This meant that every query i had would have to wait till she was done entertaining the rest of the restaurant.
Ordered the truffle fries as I usually would but it came without the truffle shavings. Weird - hence I asked about it. Only then did they inform that the truffles were not available on that day. Its RM 35 for a serving, it should have been informed that truffle shavings were not available hence a certain amount should be taken off the price? Had to ask before they offered a discount.
Steak was served with sauce all over. Would've been better if they served the sauce on the side since some would prefer to have their steak on its own. Cold capellini was abit too acidic and wet - what is usually my favourite dish became a struggle to finish. Truffle pasta tasted more like cream pasta than anything.
All in all, a very bad experience. Would definitely think twice before making my next reservation.
Came by here a couple times before, finally came around to posting about it.
Make a reservation ahead of time as they're full every other weekend - or at least in my experience. One thing to note, if you're booking for 6/615, you have to leave by 8 if someone else has booked the table.
Service by Zar Chi is good, very attentive and well versed with the restaurant and its inner workings. Other servers are either a hit or miss, some don't know what's going on other than to serve the food. Overall, it somewhat balances out.
Must orders for me are the truffle fries and the tagliatelle. Love these two. Tagliatelle can be quite jelak if you're eating it on your own, unless you love cream. Kombu spag was somewhat undercooked? Not very consistent across the whole dish. Paella and pie were good too.
Chocolate tart was bomb, I'd come back just for it! Would come back again. Expect to spend abt 100 per...
