We have been regular guests at One World Hotel for umpteen years and we absolutely love the standard of the hotel and rooms, which are always spotless and impeccably maintained, the quality of the service, which is always courteous, attentive and accommodating, as well as the convenience of being located within One Utama mall. The location also suits us as it is close to the majority of our friends who live in the area, and with the MTR providing quick and easy access to the busier and more chaotic KL city centre without the traffic jams.
We recently returned for a holiday in KL after a 3 year absence due to Covid and again chose to stay at One World hotel, despite there being newer and cheaper hotels in the area to choose from. Our decision was absolutely correct as we were welcomed by the same great friendly service and well maintained and cleaned rooms, which is important to us.
Despite not seeing any familiar staff we got to know over the years, the new staff there are just as friendly, courteous and helpful. Our requests were always attended to promptly, even odd ones like a request for an old empty cardboard box for packing, was provided without question. We found the following staff exceptional, like concierge Arul, who always spotted us and took the time to talk to us, and Cinnamon waiters, Izham and Alom, who went the extra mile in their breakfast service in their quiet and humble way.
We absolutely love the newly expanded Cinnamon restaurant, which is so spacious it took some time to get used to the walking. We realise this was a result of the need for social distancing during the pandemic, so kudos to One World for providing a much safer and more comfortable dining experience. We also love the garden view and the terrace for the opportunity to also dine outdoors.
The only minor complaint we had was our experience with the front desk staff. We arrived early in the morning due to our red-eye flight and were greeted with a rather cold and condescending staff at reception by the name of Henry, who hardly smiled or made eye-contact. His responses to our questions were impolite, very condescending and off-putting. We asked if it was possible to get an early check-in and he replied we could but will be charged for half a day. When my wife wanted to confirm if our breakfast was included (which she changed to be included in our booking at the last minute), he replied that it is not included for that morning and if we wanted to have it, we will have to pay! I’m amazed that someone with no tact or people skills is handling the front desk.
On another occasion, I asked the front desk if they could replace the weighing machine in our room because it wasn’t working. Both the senior and junior front desk staff looked at me blankly and did not know what a weighing machine was (even when explained in both English and Malay) until I showed them a picture of what one looked like on my phone. I think the hotel could do better with the selection of front desk staff and the quality of training, as this is the first impressions a guest will have of the hotel.
Aside from the above experience, which left a bad taste, the stay at our hotel was everything we had imagined from our past stays and we were still impressed and were happy with the standard and quality of the hotel and service. We will be returning and also always have no qualms in recommending the hotel to all our friends. Do keep up the good work, One...
Read moreLet the pictures speak for themselves how grotesque and unsightly it is. Even better, let Mr Alvin Koh, the head of One World see for himself.
Please take a look at the horrifying shower head. It did not take days, or weeks to accumulate such obnoxious grime. It has to be months and it's appalling that housekeeping has not been cleaning the shower head at all! What we cannot comprehend is that the position of this dirty shower head is staring directly right into the eyes of whoever is in shower area. Would you be comfortable taking a shower with it?
The small magnifying mirror was dirty and filled with finger prints when we first set foot into the room. Cannot believe that the housekeeping staff cleaned the big mirror but totally neglected the magnifying mirror.
Look at the bedsheets in the picture please and tell me is that what we the guests should look at in a 4-Star hotel? Even a 2 star hotel in Batu Pahat can do better than that!
One of the power outlets cannot be plugged in.
We discovered strands of hair on the bed and toilet when we first came in but unfortunately did not inform take any pictures.
The toilet's wash basin was found choked that evening before our first shower. We were out whole day and when we were about to wash my face after a tiring day, we realised the water was not draining off and probably choked. We called housekeeping and he came in to repair and explained to my husband that he dug up lots of dirts and chunks of hair. He threw everything into the dustbin and said he will call housekeeping to clean up the toilet and clear the rubbish. Unfortunately we waited for close to 30 min and housekeeping did not turn up. We were tired and it was midnight and we have yet to wash up. We called up operator again and told her what's happening. It was then housekeeping turned up and cleaned the toilet and removed the rubbish.
At the Cinnamon Cafe, we were seated in a new section as it was very crowded and the front section were fully occupied. As we were about to use the salt and pepper shakers, we realized that the salt container has dark stains but it was turned to face inwards and cannot be seen from the front. There was also only a little salt left and there was no pepper in the pepper shaker. We totally have no problem if this happened in the main section with endless number of guests. But not unacceptable when it happened in a section that was just opened up!
The TV's chromecast was not working and we told the technician who came to repair our room. He tried to adjust some settings but it did not work. He tried resetting and it failed to work as well. He then said he has to inform IT department. Fortunately, it worked after 15 minutes. It was then we agreed that most things here are breaking down or falling apart.
This trip literally changed our view of One World Hotel that we always highly recommend to our friends and colleagues. The hygiene and cleanliness level have seriously deteriorated and very much unacceptable. All in all, utterly disappointed with this so called...
Read moreOne of the better hotels I've stayed in Malaysia. It's strategically located right next to 1 Utama, which is heaven if you love shopping. By "right next", I mean the hotel is adjacent to the mall; there is a passage between them so you won't even have to walk outside.
Amenities were sufficient and decent. The room was nice and clean. No need to worry about hair, dust, cockroaches or anything of that sort. The toilet has a bidet, though it's nowhere as fancy as the Japanese ones. Still a nice touch.
Our stay included breakfast buffet at the Cinnamon Coffee House, which was arguably the best part of the stay. I'm normally not a morning person, so when I'm excited about the breakfast buffet you know there's something special about it. There are more than 10 stations serving various cuisines and it was hard to complain about any of them. The buffet stops at 10:30am, with last call at 10am. It would be nice if management could extend the buffet hours to noon since not everyone is an early riser and it would be nice to get some more sleep when you're on vacation.
Our stay also came with dining credits. We made full use of this dining credit by ordering in-room dining and eating out at Zuan Yuan, all of which were excellent.
In my experience, Malaysian hotels generally have weak soundproofing (even 5-star ones). While One World Hotel's soundproofing wasn't bad, there's plenty of room for improvement. We had a nice and quiet stay for the first couple days, until a noisy family checked in upstairs and their kid would start running around at 8 in the morning. We could hear the kid screaming through our ceiling. I brought the noise issue to management's attention, hoping that they would mediate with the tenant upstairs. I even showed them a video to demonstrate the noise level. To my surprise, the manager decided this was a non-issue since it apparently wasn't loud enough. Thankfully, front desk was helpful and reassigned us to a different room on a higher floor and at the end of the hallway, which was leaps and bounds better than the first room.
This brings me to another issue. Since noise has generally been a concern for me, I made sure to request a quiet room in my reservation and even reiterated the request at check in. Despite that, front desk assigned us a room directly facing the hallway and the elevators. If management had accommodated our request, we would have had a quieter room from the start and avoided the noisy family. It seems management has the tendency to disregard guest requests/complaints, hence the 4-star review. It's a real shame since everything else was perfect. I'd love to see some improvement in this regard since I like the hotel and see myself staying here again...
