I had the specific intention of seeing how Malay cuisine was being interpreted/updated while visiting KL. Was definitely not disappointed at Chinta. Comfortable and modern interiors, very pleasing to the eye. Balanced and homely flavours, with perfect portioning, an awesome place for small or big groups.
the standouts for me were their dendeng and ayam rose. The former had a good bite while still being tender, with a hint of the asam flavour that made the dish sing. Apparently the recipe is from Chef Sandra’s mom, and she added her own tweaks by smashing the meat to allow the flavours to really seep in. I’m not a fan of chilli or fishes that burn my tastebuds, so the ayam rose was just nice.
I’m all for comfort food, so their Laksa and mee rebus made me smile, and their kuehs were delicate. Love. Like their name, Chinta.
Other points of delight came in their details, from their old school sarsi bottles, to their vintage plates, apparently donated by neighbours.
All-in-all a wonderful dining experience, and a great place to entertain in (Kong and I were Raddy and Rueben’s guests). Much thanks to Mr...
Read moreWe were told about this restaurant while we were on holiday in Penang over the Chinese New Year season. Upon our return to Kuala Lumpur, one of our friends promptly booked and treated us to dinner. How blessed! We arrived just before 7 pm to an empty restaurant on a Public Holiday. Red flag? The two staff pleasantly greeted us. The dining room was empty of customers. Old style Malay music echoed through out. Expectations were high… We ordered quite a selection. First of all, portions are small served on charming dishes reminiscent of the good old days. Sadly… nothing was exceptional! Flavours fall short. Missing that extra link that would make them great. The Cuka fish… it was just sour. The smoked beef curry- the broth weak. Top Hats in a steamer basket wasn’t impressive. The chicken curry was tasteless although the color was brilliant. The vegetables were ok. But the omelette and sambal Belachan was good. Then I understood why the restaurant was empty at 7 pm on a...
Read moreService was really good and the waiters are very attentive. I came here for lunch with my husband and we ordered Daging Salai, Nasi Ulam, Ayam Rendang Perak & some veg. The taste of the raging salami was good, you can taste the smokiness. The rest are just okay.
Price is on the high side and I think they cater for “atas” Malay cuisine. I personally like the Deco.
Despite the good food, my experience was heavily interrupted by a very loud group who sat at the table opposite the bar. They were laughing so loudly and talking as if the person is sitting 10 blocks away from each other! Please be mindful of other patrons! This is so disrespectful and utterly disruptive. Hopefully the management could ensure that such thing never happens again. At least the management should advise discreetly to the noisy customers to lower down the volume.
So disappointing, even in the video u can hear the noise from the...
