Where do you go to satisfy oyster craving? If you happen to be in shopping malls, high chance that you'd say Shucked Oyster Bar. Don't get me wrong, I love Shucked but for proper restaurant setting, I'd settle for Southern Rock Seafood which is located on a quieter row of Bangsar enclave.

I disliked eating these fresh mollusks when I was young - I didn't get the idea why some people could devour raw stuff like this. I vaguely remember that it was my ex that introduced me to this. It has aphrodisiac properties.. she said. That was how I got hooked to squeeze lemon and a dallop of tabasco on top of the oysters before devouring it. I used to think that the bigger the better (ehem!) until I learned that it's important how the quality of oysters are affected by various factors such as seawater, etc.

Which brings back to Southern Rock Seafood. You'll see no less than 5 types of oysters on the counter, each with different characteristics and prices. Apart from oysters they also serve other types of seafood. ◾We started off with half dozen of Irish Premium oysters - meaty & sweet with mellow marine taste. I would have ordered second tray if my tummy permits. ◾Clams and mussels in white wine sauce ◾Roasted mixed seafood - what to complain if everything is done just right? ◾Seafood chowder - spicy tomato based seafood bliss...

I'd brought along one of my finest white burgundy just to pair with the delectable seafood and it certainly lifted the mood up. Do take note that corkage charges apply and they also sell a lot of white wines, bubbly and red...

I dont spend a lot times to comment usually, but i have to for this time: Services : 5 stars /5, the sales person closely follow up and explain for the reschedule of delivery with patient. Very appreciate that, we need more sales person / businessman like this. Packaging: 5stars/5, most natural packaging i ever see. The mussels was placed on the seaweeds and packed with wooden box, i can smell the ocean. However, i personally request to deliver with simple packaging in order to save environment, the box end up will be disposed. Mussels: 4stars/5, not as fresh as expected, understood because it came far, not bad though, at least better than those in shopping mall which looks like melted and refrozen. The mussel small. Salmon Loch Duart: 6stars/5, OMG, this salmon really kills me. So juicy, soft, so much different than others i get else where in Malaysia. I dont know is the way i cook make it different or the salmon itself does. It does not have a lot fish oil leach out like what i saw in markets which i doubt does a "real salmon" contains so much of oil. Still i like wild salmon but hardly see in Malaysia.

Thank you Southern Rock! I hope you can continue serve the best for us, many companies and businessman lose their patient eventually when times passed. Base on my experience as an accountant, i see business entities grow and die, believe it or not, the one who love customers, sustaining and growing, unless if you just want...

I came to this place long time ago when Josh the owner still around. But we stop because to get a parking is nightmare around there.

Then M&S launch their Blue Reward program and Southern Rock was one of the member where you get a promotion of buy one main course and you get another one for free.

When we arrive at the restaurant and show the staff about the promotion they really have no idea about it. But they said they will honour it.

Then after we ordered they send us a plate of 12 oyster. We said we didn’t order it but the staff said it’s complementary. So we happily eat it.

The starter arrive after that which average. But my main arrive 2 min after they send the starter. There’s confusion in the order so we send it back until we finish our first course.

When the bill arrive to our surprise they charge us 6 of the oyster. We ask why? They said oh because you have the buy 1 free one promotion. We called the manager and explain that we didn’t even order the oyster. They did end up remove it from the bill. But no buy 1 free 1 main course promotion was deducted. To be honest I just don’t have the energy to argue anymore.

In short I will NOT go back to the restaurant. Yes they may have good quality of seafood, but the cooking method just average. Staff was good but under train. Rookie mistake like that shouldn’t happened. Now I remember why we stop coming...

Under The Sea 🐳 First off, this is a review on their food delivery and not dine-in. Southern Rock Seafood has been established since 2008, importing and distributing seafood. They even have their own chain of restaurants and seafood bars. However, how do they fare in a takeaway service? Service: We placed the order via a third party app hence was pretty straight forward. Packaging: Nothing much to rave about with ordinary take away boxes Lobster Spaghetti (RM 98) Taste: Teasing us with the alluring scent which made its way out of the delivery box, we snatched the meal out with much anticipation. Although the lobster meat was a little over cooked, it was sizeable and sliced up making it easy for the diner to consume. The pasta was aldante and cooked in a tomato mashed sauced. Finished with garden fresh cherry tomatoes. Price: Reasonable Seared Scallop (RM 25) Taste: The scallops were nicely seared with a nice smooth texture within. They were rested atop a bed of sautéed spinach with garlic and finished with a dollop of caviar making a lovely side dish to the main. Price: Reasonable Recommended? Although the lobster was a little overdone, it still made a very tasteful stay home meal for the family More photos and videos are available on Instagram and Youtube (@monk3yseendo)

This is my second time at the restaurant. The first, some several weeks back, was basically a family affair. Yesterday was however very special, as I took out just my wife to celebrate her birthday. The food as always was great and the very attentive and polite staff are great accompaniments to any eatery truly deserving praise and recommendation. There was however, a small problem which prevented me from giving a 5 star rating to a most memorable evening. A resident mouse decided to make an unannounced appearance as I was gazing at wife and enjoying the food (in that order). Some patrons screamed, some panicked, including the staff as mousey, who came out to enjoy the ambiance, frantically ran back for cover amidst the commotion. Now had the theme of the restaurant been "enjoy food amidst the sights and sounds of exotic local wildlife", then YES, Southern Rock Seafood, deserves a 5 star rating. So unless mousey is the head chef, like Remy in Disney's animation "Ratatouille", I would have to think twice about going back again. But in all fairness, Southern Rock Seafood is an exceptionally clean restaurant and I am very sure the management there will do every thing possible to issue a "Notice of Termination" to mousey with immediate effect.
