We came here for a meeting over lunch, to discuss regarding a future wedding reception to be held at the Grand Ballroom here. Nelly came with his son Fitri, and soon after Fitri's fianceè Ainaa also joined us.
My wife had been organizing exclusive wedding events for years, and this type of event is her special expertise We discuss several basic issues such as theme colors, costumes and potential guest lists. What had started at the hotel lounge continued further over lunch at the Colonial Cafe.
Apparently, we were early and they only open for business at 11:00 am. But they allowed us to sit at our table and to place our orders, but the food wouldn't be served until much later. That was fine with us, as we could discuss our issues further.
Nelly and my wife settled their choices on the Cantonese Koey Teow, while I was quite undecided. I didn't want to try the koey teow, as I could bet they couldn't beat my normal and favorite koey teow dish I used to eat during our times living in Ipoh...and my wife did agree with me later...So, I finally went for the Hainanese Lamb Shank, which looked quite dark in nature, including the gravy color. Lamb Shank is my all time favorite dish, but I normally go the Italian or middle eastern types. But I thought I should give it a try, only to regret it later. The taste was not as I expected, and not to my liking.
Fitri ordered the Cod Fish dish, which was obviously delicious, as he even shared some with his mum. While Ainaa tried the Fish & Chips, but she didn't get to finish them all. Maybe our conversation was more...

Read moreHad high tea in the Drawing Room section of Colonial Cafe on a Friday evening. We were a large group of 7.
The setting was great. Really nice decor and atmosphere. The table could not accommodate all the high tea sets being out at once, we requested the sets be staggered.
The dishes that came with the high tea set were pretty delicious. A good mix of sweet and savory items. I particularly enjoyed the pies and pastries. The sweet dishes were a hit and miss. Sandwiches are the same as well. I think each set comes with one or two tea options which they will refill for you.
Service was a bit wanting though. The room closes at 6pm, and you have to finish the foodstuff by then. You can't move to the Colonial Cafe section as dinner service is being started. They don't use the drawing for the dinner service oddly. Our first payment did not go thru, and around 10-15 minutes later the waiter returns saying so. We felt it was a bit odd as the first payment receipt said it was approved.
All in all the more upper end kind of high tea setting you can opt for in KL. May likely be back to try the Orchid...
