I am on the fence when it comes to this restaurant as I had a mixed experience when I visited. My friend and I had lunch there on a Friday afternoon and the place was full. Since I had arrived first and my friend was only a few minutes away, I went in to grab a seat first.
I relayed my request for a table for two to a waitress, who brushed me off and tried to usher me to a bar seat. I repeated that I would prefer a table and didn't mind a wait. Just then, a small table in front of me vacated so I quickly asked the waitress if I could have it, and she just shrugged, "Yalah, if you want," before walking off to leave me and the still-unmade table.
I quickly grabbed a seat and luckily managed to get the attention of another waitstaff to get it cleaned. My friend arrived then and we both ordered from a waiter. Food arrived quickly as it was 2pm the lunch crowd was emptying. We both had ordered a salmon sashimi set and I was (happily) shocked to see that each sashimi slice was literally thicker than my thumb. There were ten gigantic chunks on ice, miso soup, chawanmushi, salad and a bowl of rice - all for only RM38. I spent the whole meal in shock at how much value I was getting.
But sashimi aside, the food taste wasn't anything to shout about. The chawanmushi, while generous with the minced meat added, was too heavy with the miso/dashi flavouring so the eggs tasted way too earthy instead of light. We had also ordered some clams nabe, which was a bit too salty. But at least the sashimi was reasonably fresh, although I wish they had done away with the grey flesh.
Overall, Edo Ichi does have reasonable set meals, but keep in mind that their ala carte options are significantly pricier. So I'd advice to grab their value set meals for lunch and dinner. The next time I return, I'll just stick to...
Read moreHad a pretty disappointing meal here at Edo Ichi @ Bangsar South. Thought of trying this Japanese Restaurant since I was near by the area. Regretted not going to the usual trusty Rakuzen instead.
It was during lunch time and it was quiet packed. Was seated at the counter area and that is not a good place to sit and have your meal.
Cos the restaurant places the trays and cutlery in front at the counter top. Something that I've never came across before in any restaurant and I think it's a silly seating layout.
Waiter/ess keep coming over to take and place those tray which disturbs your peace while eating. How thoughtful of them.
The noise level inside the restaurant is unbearable - the plates/bowls/cutlery are having a drum rock concert whenever they're collected and managed in the kitchen area. So loud that you can't even hear the background ambiance music or the customers voice around (and yes, the place was packed).
Luke warm food - ordered a teppanyaki dish and when i took the 1st bite, it was luke warm. So guess what, 1/2 way eating my food is cold already.
Inattentive service for which customers paid the 10% service charge. I know it's lunch hour but service is still service.
Well, I'll still give 2 stars cos the food quality is good and fresh.
Such a waste as this restaurant had good rating. Maybe it was a long time ago and they're unable to keep up the standard and...

So I had to pick up the home minister who had seminar to attend nearby, and she texted me that it might finish late. Initially planned to dine elsewhere but the kids started to throw tantrum due to the growling tummies, I had to change the plan and brought them to Nexus Bangsar South.
The moment their eyes gleaming upon the fight of Edo Ichi, I knew that I could not escape anymore. So I brought them in.. ordered for them to cure their hunger while waiting for her to finish and walk over.
◾Atsuyaki Tamago - finished instantly upon serving. ◾Sashimi Moriawase - price ranges from 2-digits to 3-digits depending on the number of varieties and type of sashimi. I was craving for otoro and salmon belly. ◾Unagi Crispy Roll - crispy nori enveloping the rice roll with the flavourful Unagi at the centre and lastly drizzled with Japanese mayo... Can't get better than that. ◾Salmon Oyako Don with Ikura - requested by the sonny as he would order this everytime. ◾Saba shioyaki - prefer this style over teriyaki ◾Ebi Tempura - very tasty snacks ◾Foie Gras Avocado Steak with teriyaki sauce and assorted mushrooms - just because she was craving for foie gras at that point of time.
We headed back home with stuffed tummies not...
