Hock Kee Kopitiam — Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur

Let me preface this by saying that my group are frequent customers to this outlet and have generally enjoyed the food served, even during the peak office lunch rush. We understand that we would always have to wait to be seated and service would depend on the crowd.

However, I do believe some staff needs more trainings. We arrived for lunch today at about 11:45pm and started to queue, maybe the 4th or 5th group in line. While waiting, we noticed the staff that is managing the queue walking about to check how many pax are in each group but he did not check my group of 3. We brushed it off and continued waiting. The second time, he did not check on us but I did signal "3" to him when he looked at us. According to my friend, he brought in a group of 2 and a group of 3 from the queue behind us into the restaurant. During the third time, he checked the group before us, skipped my group and checked on others behind us. This time we called the staff and told him clearly that we have 3 pax.

Now this is where we find it unacceptable. During the fourth time, again he skipped my group and instead called the group of 3 right behind us to enter the restaurant. When we confronted him saying that we also have 3 pax, he just "oh" and continued bringing the group in to be seated. He later told us that he thought we were together with the group before us, even though all 3 of us where present when we told him 3 pax. When we finally reached the front of the line, he attempted to sit my group separately at opposite ends of the restaurant in attempt to correct his mistake. Not sure how that is any better, but luckily a corner table finally opened up right after and we can finally be seated at 12:23pm. Again, fully understood and acceptable that we needed to wait to be seated but not when later groups of the same size can be seated before us.

We also noticed that the staff were quick to clear some tables than others. The one that stood out to us was a table that was sat long before we started to queue. My group had just finished our meal and the staff quickly cleared our plates while we were finishing our drinks. But that table still had all their plates and cups uncleared as they continued their conversation, even until our group left the restaurant.

Not sure why the service this time was below par but hopefully they can improve to properly...

An excellent place to relax and enjoy a hot beverage but the coffee lacks the oomph (short of "c" and somehow not "kaw" enough). The roti stim is a bit disappointing. The kaya is on the sweet side but should have more butter to make up for it. The place is mostly crowded during lunch hours. Since the Kopitiam is located adjoining the driveway, it is very convenient to find. Definitely would be back to try their other delights and hot beverages. There are so many staffs with their roaming eyes ready to pounce to serve customers at the slightest hint. Parking is quite convenient.

The interconnectivity with other buildings in the vicinity is excellent (except some parts there are gaps whereby one is still exposed to the elements of weather). However, the biggest letdown of Nexus Bangsar South is that the building do not cater enough to those who are wheelchair bound. Except the main gate, all the other staircases leading from the roadside are only comprised of steps. The connectivity with other buildings are also restricted to steps. Physically challenged people will have to wheel between buildings using the outside main road, which again is problematic when it is raining. Hopefully all these building management's could sit down together to address this shortcomings (unless physically challenged customers are the non-prioritize). I however beg to differ bcos physically challenged customers normally would not come alone. There is a nearby building (Wisma Life Care) where there are quite a number of physically challenged patients (and family members) who could be potential customers). Maybe bcos there is no connectivity for the wheelchair bound, there not many would choose to...

As a regular patron, I’ve always appreciated the variety and quality of your food. Your dishes are not only delicious but also offer excellent value for money, perfectly catering to local tastes. Additionally, the service has been consistently efficient and well-organized, with meals often served within 10 minutes of placing an order—a commendable feat!

That said, I do have a couple of suggestions to enhance the experience further. Firstly, expanding the seating area, particularly during peak lunch hours, would be a great improvement, as finding a table can sometimes be challenging due to the long queues. Secondly, it would be wonderful if your team could start asking takeaway customers whether they require plastic cutlery sets. This small change would not only promote environmental sustainability but also reinforce your image as a socially responsible F&B establishment.
