Unique style of cooking Fish!
These days most of us have so many group chats on WhatsApp that it kind of distract us from our work or daily activities. And I believe that like me, most of us would actually silent the chat notifications saving for those important ones, right? One of the group that I didn't put into silent mode is my regular makan & minum kakis, a small group that love their food & drinks.
One of them mentioned about this restaurant serving delicious food in Taman Desa and proceed to organise a dinner + whisky here - but I couldn't join due to my prior arrangement. But when he said the food was good, I took notice and plotted my family dinner here one weekend evening.
I called up to reserve a table as I didn't want to be turned away after driving all the way to Taman Desa. Sure enough, the restaurant was packed with hungry diners when I arrive.
◾2-way grouper fish - if every restaurant has a gimmick dish, then they have done this fish justice. Half of the fish was steamed and covered with a concoction of sliced mango cubes, garlic, chilly and soy sauce that work surprisingly well together; while the other half was deep fried and covered with the special mango sauce. Presentation-wise the dish won the night. ◾deep fried pork ribs with Guinness stout - my quick thinking that the kids might not appreciate the fish turned out to be true. I ordered this dish instead and they liked it. ◾deep fried pork belly with chef's special sauce - deep fried and crispy pork belly smothered with a combination of sweet & savoury sauce plus a bit of peppery. Interesting... In a good way, of course. ◾stir fried potato leaves with garlic - customary vegetable for the dinner. ◾I felt like drinking wine hence popping a Barossa Valley Shiraz.
It does not look good at all from the outside and the signboard isn't lit at night. But the strong crowd is a testament of the popularity of...
Read moreMarch 2024 Food is average but service is bad. The wait staff could not understand local language. There were staff that could possibly help with local language but they did not bother. Used to be a better restaurant - what happened?
May 2024 Went back there for lunch. Unfortunately, it has gotten worse. The service staff taking the order again cannot speak the local language - it was frustrating. I asked the boss sitting at the counter to take the order and she did not appear happy to do so. We ordered 3 dishes and our first dish arrived way after the other tables that came in after us. We finished the first dish about 15 minutes later waiting for our other dishes. (The food tasted mediocre). We were then told they forgot about the other two dishes. The restaurant at that time has only 2 or 3 other tables occupied. We said we do not need them anymore and cancelled the other two dishes. (We went to another place to finish our lunch) and will likely not be back to this restaurant that we used to frequent for many...
Read moreHad to pay parking fee just for this row of shop lots. Kesian the shop owners, if this might affect their business..
One of the server (looks related to the owner) was a little cold when we enquire about our reservation but the food was different.
The fish with mango and the pork rib with lemongrass was a creative touch but the portion of the dishes were relatives small, each of us only had ONE pork rib and half a bowl of soup only. They could be a little more generous with...
