The sandwiches are ok. I want to rate this place highly but the service staff is just so bad.

My partner and i arrived at the door and there was a queue. I asked one of them if the queue was for a table or takeaway.. they said they had “no idea” as they were told to just stand in line. Mind u, the sign at the front implied dat if u want to takeaway, u’d have to order at the counter and if u want a table, you’d have to queue to be seated. But there was only 1 queue leading towards the counter so ok we just queued.

Everyone in line were confused as random groups within the line were attended to by the front house lady without following the order of which they came in. I want to say “ok maybe they just want ppl to get seated faster” but her method didnt make sense as for example, 2pax in line were asked to sit at the table for 4 or 4 pax were asked to sit at the stools…

Everyone around us were questioning what happened so i just asked the front house lady “excuse me, we are looking to dine-in.. do we line up or what are supposed to do?” With a condescending tone she told us “why dont u just find a table? Why are u lining up?” I was annoyed but was also insistent on being courteous to the others in the line who had waited longer than us so i asked again “are u sure? We were supposed to just sit as soon as a free table is available?” Then as soon as she was about to answer me, she just pointed and told us to sit at a stool seating corner that was just vacated. We went and asked us to scan the menu. And before we left, i asked her “how do we order?”. She just said “oh u havent order? JOINback the queue.”

At this point i was in disbelief. But i kept calm so i just went back to the queue… i waited in line and suddenly the same lady came up to me and asked why am i in line? I just told her “you told me to line up so i lined up to order.” Then she asked me again “do u have a table?”. HAHA AT THIS POINT I WANTED TO LEAVE THE PLACE..

I showed her where my table was (the same table that she directed us to sit at, 2 minutes ago) and she was like “oh ya ok sir just sit down and scan the menu”.. AGAIN i stupidly followed her instruction and the moment i sat down, she had the audacity to ask my partner (who was at the table the whole time) “Why is the table not cleaned? Im sorry but this table is not ready. You have to clean”. At this point in my mind i was thinking “were we the ones who were supposed to clean up after others? Cuz i see the other staff members were the ones who did the cleaning at the other tables..” confused, i just asked the same lady again “what are we supposed to do to get some food?” SHE RAISED HER VOICE TO ASK ME TO GO LINE UP AGAIN. At this point it was a “scene” that everyone in the queue was well aware of so they kindly let me cut the queue to order.

And im sorry, i have to say that none of us in that queue had any kind words for that lady. We were frustuated, misled and for my partner and i, disappointed with her service in which she had raised her voice at us for just asking for some clarification. In fact, i overheard that she did the same to the other patrons that were coming in as well.

Please train your staff. Ruined the experience for me...

Respectable approach to the Italian sandwich, using Schiacciata, just like what they are inspired from, All’Antico Vinaio’s legendary sandwich in Italy which i will be comparing to.

The Good: The ham portion was quite generous and itself was good, deep in flavour and same goes to the pesto. Unfortunately that’s all for the good of this place.

The Bad: The portion you see on the photos they post, are not what you will get, the photos show a stack of sandwich and for prices around or more than RM50, you’d expect that’s the least you will get. No, it is about abit less portion than a 6 inch subway, and for RM50, it is disappointing. I am very glad i didn’t order the expensive RM50 one due to this very fact.

All’Antico Vinaio’s portion, when I had it in Florence, was 4x the size of this. trust me when you get the bag you will be disappointed.

Portion of the fillings like the aforementioned pesto and buffalo mozzarella was barely any to be seen. I took two bites and it ends there, the rest of the sandwich is just bread (I will not be calling it Schiaciatta like they did because it is not) and the ham.

The “Schiaciatta” was not only not baked by them, it is nothing like the Schiaciatta I had in Florence. I don’t think it shares any similar trait, the bread was stale, spongy instead of fluffy and there was no crunch. just spongy bread.

Maybe it’s because it was cold already, but I did pickup exactly at the time of my specified pick up time, which i’d expect it to be nice and steaming hot like the ones I had.

The Ugly For this, I hated the overall system. You want to eat there? pay 10% more. you want to takeaway? you can’t unless you pre order. you want it to be delivered? there’s a mark up.

This is the first restaurant i’ve been to that discourages dining in, when the true italian way of food is to eat it on the spot. And I understand the fact that it is in the condo, but maybe a restaurant catering to the public shouldn’t be in a condo.

You have to register in the guardhouse and park in the visitor parking and walk all the way.

Lady who handed me my sandwich said no less than 1 word and left me to be.

Overall, Lots to improve. For the price charged, even more to improve. For sandwich of this size, in a condo, with minimal accessibility, is too much. The sandwich itself was very underwhelming. about 25% similarity to the real thing. The quality of the bread wasn’t there.

I will not discourage anyone to try, but please try and have your opinion, but my opinion was based on what I had in Italy, which is also my favorite country and place of food that i frequent. Kudos to owners of this place, and...

I generally avoid leaving comments about my experiences at F&B outlets, fully aware of the demanding and fast-paced nature of the business. Having spent years in the hospitality industry myself, I understand that one bad day doesn't define a whole place.

However, my experience at La Spiga is something I cannot overlook. A month ago, I visited as my friend recommended the place for its delicious food. Sadly, what was meant to be an enjoyable outing turned into a deeply humiliating experience that I recall vividly even now.

Upon entering, I was met by a Chinese lady with a ponytail at the counter. As a first-time guest, I was unfamiliar with the ordering process and the Italian-named sandwich options, so I sought her assistance. Her dismissive response to my inquiry about ordering procedures and sandwich options made me feel as though I was asking an absurd question.

The situation worsened when I attempted to order the "L’Andrea" sandwich. Her curt correction, accompanied by an EYE ROLL , was both shocking and hurtful. It was not the reaction I expected from someone representing at the counter.

Visiting with my family of four, we intended to enjoy a light tea, having already had lunch. Ordering two sandwiches and two coffees should not have been an issue, yet her remark—pointing dismissively at my husband and saying, "so it’s for 'that guy' and four of you, two sandwiches"—was unnecessarily rude and uncalled for.

I returned to our table, feeling shaken and unsure how to process what had just happened. From our seats, we witnessed her extend the same disrespectful demeanor to other customers and her own staff, making us feel as though we were part of a disheartening spectacle, rather than a welcoming dining environment.

While the sandwiches were tasty ,no level of culinary excellence can justify the kind of service we experienced. Even if the sandwiches could "fly," I would not return, not even for a complimentary meal. To the management, if you are reading this, I implore you to remember that the lifeline of your business is your customers. We are not supplicants; we are paying patrons deserving of respect and kindness.

The humiliation from that Chinese Lady (pony tail) was uncalled for and left a lasting negative impression. I urge you to address this issue seriously. Remember, it's your staff who represent your brand, what’s more she’s the one who manned at the Counter. Genuine respect and kindness are not optional—they are essential. Otherwise you risk turning first-time visitors...

A hidden Italian Deli "Schiacciata is a kind of bread traditionally made in the regions of Tuscany and Umbria, in central Italy. It tastes a lot like focaccia, but unlike the focaccia made in Genoa, Schiacciata does not require a very lengthy process and it can easily be made at home as the dough is really forgiving." Crunchy on the outside while soft & moist on the inside, they made perfect sandwich that I recently had in La Spiga D'oro, a hidden Italian deli located in a condominium in Bangsar South. The deli is quite small in size but they do have limited tables for dine-in (alfresco style) in the common area. Run by an Italian-Malaysia, husband & wife team, it is truly a gem worth exploring. One can expect authentic Italian fares such as lasagna, Insalata, cured meats and desserts that will surely send smile to your face. ◾Bufalina RM38 - the faultless combination of prosciutto crudo, fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes with extra virgin olive oil, Maldon salt & vincotto. The normally picky princess actually commended the freshness of the salad. ◾Cheese & Meat Platter RM68 - they have plenty types of cured meats.. and do specify your preference or they'll choose for you instead. Complimentary sun dried tomatoes and mashed pea dipping sauce on the side. Wish that I had a bottle of wine with me at that moment. ◾Il Tacchinino RM32 - turkey ham, melted mozzarella, tomatoes, homemade pesto sauce. Beautifully assembled and the son had no problem making it disappeared in less than 5 minutes. ◾L'Illegale - porchetta Romana, melted scamorza affumicata & homemade onion jam. Winner of the day with the beautiful aroma of melted smoked cheese, sweet & savoury onion jam plus the porchetta! ◾While you're there, feel free to grab a bottle of their pure fruit juice from the chiller especially the pear juice. Other options include prosecco, Italian craft beers, sparkling or still water.. ask for their wines too if you love it! Prices stated is for takeaway but should you choose to dine-in, they will factor in an extra 10% service tax on total bill.

Summary: Crazy-bad location does not fully detract from the best-in-town (only-in-town?) Italian Schiacciata sandwiches at this amazing little shop in Bangsar south. Worth the hassle to visit, but make sure you park in the Visitor Parking right by the gate (and not the one a half KM away!) Spiga d'oro is located in a random apartment complex in bangsar south (not even one of the new ones). A small shoplet in the apartment's common area, it has only 3 outdoor tables, with the space in the shop taken by ovens, fridges and prep tables. They specialise in cured meat, Italian cheese and other condiments, with the crowning glory the freshly baked schiacciata bread from the bakery next door. The schiacciata is crunchy, oozing olive oil flavor and simply amazing with the heavy ingredients they top each sandwich with. We had the L'illegale (Porchetta Romano, Scamorza and Onion Jam) and the Porcello (Pancetta, Mozzarella and Truffle mayo). Both were phenomenal, but I preferred the lighter flavor of the L'illegale, as it allows the flavor of the cured porchetta to shine, rather than be overwhelmed by truffle as the pancetta in the Porcello was slightly. This place also does sliced to order for a huge selection of cured meats and cheeses, and if this was closer/easier to reach, I'd be here every month for takeaway or sandwiches. Tip on finding the place: Go to the Pantai Panorama Apartment guardhouse, tell them you're going to the restaurant and they'll register your car and IC. After he lets you in, park in one of the 4 visitor parking slots directly behind the guardhouse - the other visitor parking lot is hundreds of meters away and the walk is a killer. At least you don't have to pay a parking fee! This concept seems ripe for expansion, and I look forward to seeing them grow! Definitely give them a shot while the hype isn't overwhelming.
