We recently dined at this somehow-still-pretty-new restaurant in Taman Desa. The ambience was great. Tried their pizzas, pasta and some starters. Everything was good, no complaints.
However, we were very disappointed with the service level of the restaurant. First of all, no one greeted us when we entered the restaurant, the waiters didn't look friendly at all. None smiled from the moment we entered till we left. Even when we were leaving, none of the waiters bother to say thank you or offered to open the door for us. It was like "ok, you can just walk to the door, open the door yourself & just leave, no one bothered".
Also, they didn't even ask if they could clear the plates but just took and went. Yes, we may have finished some, but isn't it a common courtesy to just ask or at least say "excuse me" if you want to clear the plates on the table while we're still eating other dishes? No "welcome", "Excuse me", "thank you" from any of the waiters. Best of all, the waiter who took our order was playing with the pen cover & he accidentally dropped the cover on me and then dropped to the floor, i was shocked and wanted to search for the cover on the floor, and the waiter just said "It's ok". hello!! i was expecting a "Sorry" at least, rather than "it's OK"!
The Penthouse seems like a nice restaurant with beautiful interior and great ambience, plus good food & wine selection. It's a shame to have this kind of service level for a restaurant like this. Can you imagine paying for a up-market-restaurant price but getting mamak-stall-level kinda service? So, I urge the owner or management of The Penthouse to maybe have some proper training for your waiters to be more courteous, friendly & professional.. i mean, if you want returning customers...
Given what we tried on our first visit, we would love to return to try more food on the menu, however we're thinking twice due to the far-below-expectation kinda service level. Well, I do hope that they improve on this, so maybe visit again couple of weeks later and see if they've improved, and if service level remains like how it was during our first visit, then i guess the 2nd visit would...
Read moreTried this restaurant for the first time. I was really impressed by the interior design, even the toilet was well done. The food however is mediocre, probably 3/5.
There’s a mismatch between the food and the interior. One example is I ordered spring fried chicken. The chicken itself was a bit overcooked and hard but I don’t mind it. The fries (the cheap kind) and coleslaw were disappointing though. I feel there can be more effort put into the sides. It really felt like dining in at Texas Chicken but at double the price.
I really enjoyed the grilled salmon with avocado. The portion was not generous but it was well cooked so I’m happy.
Another dish was carbonara. The taste was pretty amazing. Just that other than noodles and ham, there was nothing else. Mushrooms were incredibly limited.
Other things to note: the house wine was great, at rm30 per glass. The dishes were served quite slowly. The first dish came within 20mins. The second dish came after another 10-15mins. Not great if you usually wait for all dishes to arrive before eating (manners)
Will revisit in a few months when things settle down since this restaurant is still new. Overall thoughts: not impressed by the food, but impressed by...
Read moreHands down a great decent steakhouse, finally open another outlet in taman Desa, originally from Subang (across SJMC).
Food is consistent, don’t expect the best of the best, but you can expect decent steak for the price point you’re getting. Beggars can’t be choosers.
My only annoyance here was that I ordered the angus dried age meat medium rare… it came out more towards the are side with a high heat seat crust/edge. I pointed out to them that it’s slightly too rare, and asked if they fired up way too high heat while the meat was still cold. Obviously I felt that the message wasn’t conveyed well towards the kitchen, I knew it when I could sense some sarcasm with their voices (but I hope it’s just me over thinking). The meat came back medium well afterwards 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️. Not gonna complain much and just gobble up the meal.
All in all, the food is somewhat inconsistent when it’s on a full house, but I guess you gotta be lucky to find the days when the kitchen is in a happy mood.
Other than that, it’s a good place to chill and do business meals, but the outlet in Subang is the best place to just chill there for 3-5 hours straight.
Ps, they’ve got a great selection...
