We noticed this restaurant while walking through Kampung Baru and decided to give it a try during our vacation. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had, and I feel it’s important to share our story – especially for fellow tourists. First and foremost, the staff didn’t speak a single word of English. We had important questions regarding food allergies, and it was clear the waiter didn’t understand us at all. He kept nodding “yes” and then “no” randomly, even when we were clearly asking questions that required proper answers. I ended up using a translation app to explain our allergy concerns, but even then, he didn’t read the message carefully and just kept nodding. This was extremely frustrating and left us feeling very uncertain about what we were being served. And like we feard, the ingrediënts we asked NOT to put on our plate, were put there… The Morocco rice was afwul! It was way too sweet and overpoured with blacknpepper sauce??? We also asked—again via the app—whether anyone on the staff spoke English, but the man just gestured “no.” He didn’t even look like a waiter; all the actual waiters were dressed in black, while this man was walking around in casual clothes carrying boxes of crackers, which he seemed to be trying to sell. Throughout our time at the restaurant, we were approached multiple times by beggars and people trying to sell us things like keychains and dried fruit. This was very unpleasant, especially since the outdoor seating area was clearly defined as part of the restaurant and should have been private. At one point, a man with an amputated arm came right up to our table waving his stump in our faces asking for donations – it was shocking and quite disturbing, especially for our children. After this, we lost our appetite entirely. The food took an extremely long time to arrive. I was served first, and by the time I had finished eating, the rest of my family was just getting their dishes. The food itself was a disappointment. It was overly salty, the meat was tough, and the kids’ meals – particularly the chicken chop with fries – were very small in portion and served cold. To summarize: • Poor communication from staff who couldn’t answer basic questions about the menu. • Completely unprofessional atmosphere with beggars and street vendors allowed to bother guests at their tables. • Food was delayed, cold, too salty, and not worth the price. • Very small portions for the children’s meals. This place is definitely not worth visiting, and we will not be returning. A real letdown.

We dined at the restaurant on Friday evening and had a most enjoyable time. Not only was the food excellent, but we had the delightful service of the waiter who really made the occasion with his friendly, attentive and professional service. We absolutely loved the Live’s music vibe, which helped create a lively, but not too loud atmosphere (and we were seated quite close). We enjoyed pre-dinner drinks, a sizzling Salmon Steak and Regular Salmon Steak with Black Pepper sauces for the menu and excellent Giant Mugs of fruit juices to round the evening off. Delightful evening and we will be returning when we are next in town. There is a mosque nearby for Muslim as well.

This is what they call spaghetti meatball. Well... it's not like I have not eaten meatballs in my life before or even cooked them, but this is actually 'fish balls or crabmeat balls' used with steamboat or odden. When highlighted to the cashier he stoned faced told me that was what they use in their spaghetti meatballs recipe. He said 'hok ni laa yg kita guna'. Hahaha.. I definitely wouldn't come back to this place. It's just that it was late and not many eateries were open during Raya so we end up here. This is certainly the place for newbies to western food. Sorry, totally not recommended.

A True Gem for Steak Lovers! I recently visited HR Steakhouse Kg Baru and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. The moment you walk in, the warm ambiance and friendly staff set the tone for an enjoyable evening.

The highlight, of course, is the food. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection—juicy, flavorful, and tender. It’s clear they use high-quality ingredients and take great care in their preparation. The lamb chop was seasoned beautifully, and every bite melted in my mouth. Yummy

Another impressive aspect was how quickly the food was served. The waiting time was minimal, and everything arrived hot and fresh without any delays—a rare and welcome treat!

The sides were just as delightful yet simple ! The truffle mashed potatoes and coleslaw complemented the steak perfectly. The portion sizes were generous, making it great value for the price.

Service was outstanding—our server was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and ensured we had everything we needed without being intrusive. Kudos abang!

If you’re a steak lover or just someone who appreciates excellent food, great service, and no waiting time HR Steak House is a must-visit. Mesti! I can’t wait to return and try more...

I won't argue about the location. I know only too well that place is a very hard place to find a parking spot. The ambiance was nice, it was very rustic. I even believed I was in the west.

HOWEVER, the waiters were VERY UNFRIENDLY. He did not listen carefully to our orders, thus resulting to some food that we did order didn't even make it on the check. When we received our food the waiter called out the dishes as if he was so stressed and he wanted us out. Literally placing the plate roughly. The plate wasn't even warm.

The food were a hot tragedy on a plate. The steak was not as wow as they said it would be. It was not flavored well. The baked beans and misses were cold, the cocktail chicken sausages were sour as if it was rotten. The bread was stale, and the salad was like baby's vomit. It tasted sour and it was not because of the mayonnaise.

They ought to call the "restaurant" HR Canteen not HR Steak House.

I would not recommend ANYONE to come here. I felt so cheated. I worked hard to find a parking spot. When I got there, I had to wait a very long time to find a table and another long wait for...
