This will be my first and the last staying at Tamu Hotel & Suites. We booked Two Bedroom Suite. Here's my honest review.
Hotel staffs are not well trained and rude a. As soon as we arrived at the hotel drop-off, none of the concierge were there. A security came because “we can’t stay there at the drop-off”. We said we wanted to check-in; he asked us to go call concierge inside. Just leave our bags on the ground. FYI, we also came with a PWD. We are not expecting a “special treatment” but since there were so many issues during our stay- I will highlight every single thing that are lacking throughout our stay. Wouldn’t it be more courteous and hospitable if the security assisted us to call the concierge? It seems like everyone was clueless on what they were supposed to do. b. Rude remark by one of the staffs at the Level 40 Tamu Sky Lounge. As soon as we got there, the staff said “Kat sini untuk makan je. Tengok-tengok tak boleh,” I’m sorry but excuse me- what? If this is the way he talks to cutomers, he should never be at the entrance of the Sky Lounge to welcome customers. By this point, all of us, a family were already turned off to have our dinner there and decided to just head down to Level 1’s café house.
Breakfast buffet at Level 27. Buffet foods are so-so. Some of them are good, some are tasteless. Not that many choices of food. However, I have one complaint- café staffs/waiters re-used the unused cutleries after a customer left the table. If the unused cutleries were untouched- I wouldn’t care so much. But the un-used cutleries were clearly disturbed (as in they were not in their original place on the table). How do you know if the previous customer did not touch/use the cutleries before? Honestly this is so unhygienic! If you must do this, can you not do this in front of your customers? Is not SoP to change all cutleries on the table after customer(s) left/done with the table?
Now let’s talk about the room. We booked Two Bedroom Suite. a. Curtains: the curtains are dusty and they were so visible! They didn't do a proper houskeeping cleaning. b. One of the bathroom’s water faucet is broken- no handle. Also, clearly all the water closets (WC) were not designed and installed properly. They were too close to the wall. Therefore, they modified the WC’s seat to an angle. Also, toilet seats in both bathrooms are loose and nearly broken. c. The master bedroom’s bathroom was flooded with water because the floor level is flat, hence they can’t flow to the floor trap/drain. Again, another design faulty by the contractor of the hotel. d. No facial tissue box provided in the room. When we asked for it, the gave us the tissues, without the box- with their bare hands. Again- not hygienic at all. e. Only one unit of remote control for air-conditioner is provided in the Two Bedroom Suite. d. Broken water kettle. The hotel rate was quite high, and we get broken stuffs in our room? f. No room service menu. No complaint/survey forms in our room. When asked, the hotel staff said it’s in the room- when in fact none of it is in our room.
We already complained all these in the morning of our second day of stay but no actions being taken by the hotel except sending us housekeeping guy (regarding our complaint about the bathroom). Our major issue was the toilet as I said in point 3)c. We even requested to change rooms, and what they did was sent us housekeeping to push the water out to the water drain. So, are we gonna keep calling the housekeeping every time we gonna use the toilet? In the end we asked the housekeeping guy to leave the water wiper in the room for us.
This might be a 4-star rating hotel, but 2-star rating service. No actions were taken upon our complaints (except sending us the housekeeping guy), didn’t even offer us to change rooms, or even compensation when we checked-out. They just acknowledged our experiences by saying “ohh ye ke?”. And did not even offer us an apology. LOL. Horrible. May refer pictures attached for reference. FYI, we also submitted the complaint/survey form to...
Read moreTamu Hotel is the hotel that you go to have a short getaway. The pros & cons kinda balance out each other but the price definitely matches the worth the experience hence the 4/5 stars rating.
Plus points: The highlight of the hotel is the Sky Lounge that has a very nice view of KLCC at night. The food is very nice too. I recommend book a table first so you can take a bunch of photos during dinner. Prayers mat are provided for muslims and the kiblat direction sticker is placed at the ceiling of the room. There are 2 pools. Normal pool and kids' pool. The pools has a very nice view of the KL City. Breakfast buffet is available at level 27. Be sure to be there early if a lot of people staying in the hotel at the time. Gym is also available. Right next to Masjid Jamek Kambung Baru that have some classes or sermons during the weekends. Theres a 7E next to the hotel that operates 24/7 Numerous restaurants nearby ranging from western, tomyam, seafood and more. Near Maybank ATM Fast checkout. Barely need to do anything to check out .
Minus points: We had the suite with the electric stove but no pots. When asked for a pot, they said the hotel doesnt provide one. How are we supposed to use the stove? The parking is hard. There are like 20 floors for parking and each floor has less than 20 parking spots. The spacing between parking spots and the road is quite small such that its going to take quite an effort to park and take your car out. Even to navigate from floor to floor is a challenge. The free wifi has some kind of error. We called to ask how to fix it but no solution was given. They said the breakfast buffet is also available at the ground floor but when we got there, they said its only available at level 27. When we got to level 27 at 8am, they said the tables are all full so we have to wait at least 30mins for a table. We went back at 9am and its still full. Only got a table at 915am. If theres a spill on the ground, none of the hotel workers take care of it. Not much variety of food available. The corridor between hotel rooms is unclean. We saw tissue papers and dirts on the floor. Our balcony is infested with rust-like dirt. The water pressure is... Ok. Wish the...
Read moreWas lucky enough to get a chance to stay here for several nights for work. I suppose should COVID-19 be over and overseas travellers be allowed to come visit Malaysia, Tamu should be on their priority list. Located smacked in the middle of Kampung Bahru, it is a good alternative to the hustle and bustle of Bukit Bintang, and for travellers looking for good local Malay food (instead of the usual Chinese Malaysian food that foreigners often go for at Jalan Alor).
Plenty of Malay food courts with reasonable prices within a short walking distance, and if you ever need your fancy latte or beer, Jalan Doraisamy is nearby. That famous porky Chinese Restaurant Yut Kee (if you really can't live without eating pork, and willing to queue 1 hour for it), is only a 10 minute walk from here.
But if you ever feel lazy to walk, you can also choose to dine in their restaurant on the 27th floor. Food choices are a little limited by say, Shangrila standards, but most of their food were prepared from scratch, and the chefs are definitely proud of their artwork. They will almost always recommend you to try their cooking. Definitely paid off as they were so good I forgot to snap pictures of their food. Each day the cooking station offers different kind of meals so you will definitely not get bored eating on the 27th floor with a gorgeous view of Kuala Lumpur. In fact I dare say the food here is even better than some of the restaurants in Kampung Bahru, hehe.
Room is reasonably clean, just that the power sockets require you to use an adapter if you are using a two pin plug. Their clean gym or their spacious swimming pool is definitely a plus point too. Service is relatively prompt - i called reception to have the corridor lights on my level turned on and it was done promptly.
However the swimming pool water is a bit murkier than I would like and heater is slightly cooler than what I am used to. Small stuff when compared to all other good things this hotel has to offer.
All in all, this hotel is very well worth staying. The staff seems genuinely happy working here and take pride in working with this hotel. There is even a borderline homely feel staying here. Worth...
