Today we came here again as part of our #breakfastclub routine, after getting bored with our usual #nyonyacolors... Najwa even postponed her 8:00am meeting to attend this!! 😱😱
We parked at the same parking place, monitored by the nice gentleman who owns that parcel of land. It was so convenient for us. My wife was more interested in taking selfies with Najwa, while I was more concerned with the future of Kampung Bahru, as development comes knocking on its door...What will happen to all these good and affordable eating establishments? They have been here for ages!!🤔🤔
As usual, my wife was more interested in the desserts...so she ordered the kuih bahulu kemboja, along with her basic nasi lemak set. Najwa also had a simple nasi lemak, with paru goreng and extra anchovies. I ended up having exactly the same dish I had during our last visit...😋😋😋 Yes, just say it...I still cant move on!!🤣🤣🤣
My wife had been talking about coming to Wanjo for the longest time...but we could never find the opportunity to do so..Until today, that is!!👌😊
We had to send Najwa to Klcc by 12 noon, as she had to work from home earlier on. This was the perfect time to have brunch at Wanjo...and we got all excited! Looking at our excitement, Najwa suggested that we go earlier, as she wanted to tag along...Clingy Girl, what do you expect...🙄🙄
So, there we were at 11:00 am, standing in line waiting to be served...Apparently, they only serve nasi lemak, which would come with its standard set of sambal, anchovies, cucumber and one whole hardboil egg. Then there were other varieties of add ons, which you need to select to your own liking if you so desire..and eventually, you can order your drinks at the end of the queue, right before the payment counter. Very simple and easy...👍👍👍😊
I was simply spoilt for choice!! All my favorite dishes were there staring at me!!😱😱😱 ..So I just settled for the standard nasi lemak set, minus sambal, but plus the chicken rendang, sambal kerang, which was not so spicy, paru goreng, which is my all time favorite!!,😋😋😋.. and a fried egg sunny side up, as I never fancy the hardboiled type. My wife & Najwa ordered basically the same, but with deep fried chicken breasts, and minus the sambal kerang...And now that we were so satisfied with our meals, we have already planned for our next visit!!👍👍👍😋😋😋
I was jokingly telling them that this restaurant would probably be owned by Datuk Jo Ghani's grandmother (Wan), since it had started operation in the year 1963, even before I was born. Dato Jo Ghani is the local born politician who is in the running to be elected as the Member of Parliment in this coming General Election. To my surprise, I was told upon leaving the restaurant that Dato Jo himself was there with his family earlier on, and he paid for everybody's breakfast!!!😱😱😱😍😍😍
Well, not to worry, we could always come again, Dato...
Read moreAbout 20 years ago, i told myself to never ever go to Kampung Baru for Nasi Lemak. This was a time when i had a week of massive and extensive diarrhoea after tasting the then popular Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa. Back then Kg Baru outlets were different. They still reflected "kampung".
But tonight, i saw a slightly different Kampung Baru. One that changed my mind about visiting here. My brother in law was around in KL and he suggested Wanjo. I was fickle. After yes, no, yes, no, because of my phobia of eating nasi lemak in Kampung Baru, i said yes. In summary, I am happy that Wanjo adopted modern business practices. This is actually good to attract customers. I do hope i never experience the nuclear level diarrhoea that I had 20 years ago.
Pro Nasi lemak was very good (my wife is a bit particular said the nasi lacked a bit of santan). But for the common person like me, the nasi lemak was great Sambal was not too spicy. It is to my liking. So if you like your sambal extra spicy, this may not be the place for you. The rendang daging was surprisingly good. Kurang lemak. Daging lembut and sedap. A must try. Outlet was clean and there were a lot of workers. Meaning it doesn't look like Wanjo exploits basic skilled workforce. There is an aircond section for customers at RM1 per person. They have clean surau. Air-conditioned. So you can go at anytime and pray there. Coway water was free. The price is not Rahmah pricing. But its reasonable pricing at market rate. Can even be slightly lower than market rate.
Cons Parking. Finding parking is like looking for Waldo. Traffic. Going through traffic is like morning rush hour. Small roads. Some roads allow one car to pass by because people by the roadside. I have told some people that Kampung Baru needs parking. But the technical expert says, who wants to park on the 7th floor. In Bario, probably no one. But in Kampung Baru, definitely a...
Read moreYes yes, all the rave about Wanjo Nasi Lemak being the best in town, so I had to experience it myself.
First of all, getting here is really troublesome, traffic is notorious in kampung baru. What seems to be a 5 min drive from city centre, end up a 1 hour drive. Brace yourself looking for a parking spot, it's troublesome part 2.
Once you get to the restaurant, you will be greeted by friendly staffs, and will guide you accordingly to your table, or on where you would que up to order your food. You can pay RM1 to sit in a air conditioning room.
Ordering system here is self service, que up, pick any add ons you like (a range from friend chicken, rendang kerang or sambal sotong, and many more). The ordering was quick and smooth, you just gotta decide quick, as the que is usually long.
We had the nasi lemak with begedil and paru goreng, the other plate we had, ayam goreng and sambal sotong. The begedil was delicious, the paru goreng is not too bad, but chewy, I prefer my paru goreng to be crispy, but that's okay. The ayam goreng is just basic, nothing to wow about, unlike the ayam goreng from village park. Sambal sotong was good, a generous portion. And yes the main highlight is the "SAMBAL" which is very SWEET !!! and a hint of spiciness which is just okay. Nothing to rave about. I prefer my sambal nasi lemak not to be sweet, so this sambal is a no go for me, but this sambal might be suitable to others or foreigners.
Overall I'd say the experience was okay, nothing to fuss about, the quality of the nasi lemak is acceptable. Will I ever come again? I'm not sure as the nasi lemak did not hit the "ummph" which makes you crave to have it again. Two person nasi lemak (2 side dish each) with drinks will cost you approx RM35-45
Overall Experience - 6/10 Nasi Lemak - 5/10 Drinks - 6/10 Service -...
