UPDATE: Kin Thai management has refunded me. I would like to thank them and everyone at the restaurant for the great service, phone follow-up and being open and receptive to feedback. This level of exceptional service I have not encountered with other restaurants. Much appreciated. Many thanks! I came across Kin Thai OUG via Bangsar Babe on Facebook. Google review was 4.6 stars too. And on their website they claim 'Kin Thai Restaurant SERVES THE BEST THAI FOOD IN KL'. This set the bar very high and raised my expectations. I was excited to try it. I ended up being disappointed as it was not authentic Thai cuisine, misleading information (stated below) and I wouldn't say it is the best in KL. Food price and taste/quality does not match. Perhaps without their claim, things would have turned out differently. In the UK, it is against advertising rules to claim to be the best. They are lucky this is not enforced in Malaysia.
On my first visit, I ordered the following items:
Tom Yum Fried Rice was so-so only. Tom Yum Mama Noodle Seafood was lousy; the broth was diluted, tasteless and not even spicy. It would be more suitable for someone who doesn't really eat spicy food. Thai Coconut Shake - was so-so only. Coconut Ice-Cream was decent.
5 & 6. As for the Grilled Pork Sticks (Moo Ping) and Grilled Pork Neck (Gor Moo Yang), I expected it to be GRILLED as per the menu descriptions but it is fried so it is MISLEADING. As such, these were very disappointing as it was not as it should be which is grilled. Also the meat was tough.
Dear Kin Thai, perhaps something can be done about the misleading information? Either change the description to fried or grill it instead.
I do love their WhatsApp service and friendliness. This was the best part of my experience with them.
Perhaps I didn't order their best items so the food isn't great. I'm giving this place one more try before I decide whether to come back again. I'll be with more family members to try other dishes and more variety. Hope the food will be much better than my first visit. If good, I would also recommend it to relatives...
Read moreI don’t understand how this restaurant has so many good reviews. Although service and atmosphere was average, the same cannot be said about the food.
Firstly, the drinks. The fresh coconut water didn’t feel fresh at all, with a hint of sourness present. It was also accompanied by an odd fizzy feel to it, making me wonder if any sprite or 100plus was added to it. Not only that, the plain water was flavored with pandan(?), making it undrinkable.
Secondly, the food. The tomyam was made with plum, showing how unauthentic the food here was. It was also watered down and had a metallic taste. Even the seafood in the tomyam couldn’t save it. The Japanese tofu was subpar, as well as the special kailan, which was very oily. The yellow curry chicken was fine, but it lacked depth in its flavour. Although the stewed pork leg was tender, the fried garlic was overpowering the flavours of the dish. Lastly, the steamed fish. It had no unique flavour, as it had almost the exact same taste as the tomyam. Not only that, some of the vegetables and mushrooms were raw upon serving! How could a restaurant serve raw food to its customers??
Lastly, the order in which they served the food. Most of the heavy-tasting dishes — like the tofu and the chicken — were served first, whilst the lighter dishes like the steamed fish, were served last. In order for us customers to really enjoy and savour the dishes, the food should be served in order from lightest to heaviest tasting. This is so that the flavours from the heavy dishes would not overpower the light-tasting dishes.
Overall, I think this restaurant is overrated. Although the service and atmosphere is fine, the food is average at best. It lacked an authentic feel that Thai restaurants should have. Personally, I felt like it was more of a Chinese restaurant than a Thai one. This was hands-down one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with...

As passionate Thai food lovers, we can confidently say that this restaurant offers an exceptional Thai dining experience.
My family and I particularly enjoyed the stewed pork leg. It’s hands down one of the best we've had at any Thai restaurant. The pork sticks (moo ping) were equally impressive and a must-order. You wont be disappointed!
The tom yum soup was quite spicy, even though we requested it to be milder. While it was still on the spicy side, the taste was great so it wasn't a huge issue.
The green milk tea was refreshing and definitely worth trying. On a previous visit, we received a voucher for RM1 off the steamed fish with a purchase of RM138 or more, so we decided to give it a try. We ordered the steam fish with the classic lemongrass lime sauce. Unfortunately, the fish wasn’t as impressive. The texture felt off, almost as if it was an older fish, though the soup base was decent. They could have selected a better cut, but we didn’t mind too much since it was only RM1, but we probably won’t order it again as its not worth the full price.
However, the butter egg squid was absolutely fantastic. The texture was perfect. Fresh and tender, it was definitely one of the standout dishes of the meal.
Overall, this is a very authentic Thai restaurant. The food was impressive and we’ll...
