"Food will always have uniqueness and draw for different types of palate. What's good for some is mediocre for another" ≈================================≈
Soooo it was one evening at the weekend when we were invited to sample a different type of steamboat. It's definitely different and not the usual run-of-the-mill noisy busy steamboat where it usually is hot and sweaty.
Located downstairs of Amaya Maluri Service Apartment in Taman Maluri, it's easy to find, and parking is relatively easy if you park within the building...there may even be space just outside the door of the restaurant.
The menu is quite extensive, but the star of the restaurant is the Steamboat Pot, which comes with 'porridge style soup base' that is a mix of fine-ground rice-soup mixed with pumpkin. This gives the soup base a nice yellow-ish colour that's quite appetising, actually. You can order the set, which is priced per pax, and add on extra ingredients for the pot.
3 things stand out for this restaurant. The service. The staff will ever be willing and wait nearby to stir the steamboat pot. I suppose there will be more chances of a burnt soup base if it's not stirred often since it's think and 'creamy'. The Chilli/Sambal This has to be one of the highlights, in my opinion, as any steamboat will never hit the mark if they dont have good chilli sauce/s to elevate the ingredients. The Air-Cond A definite must for a good steamboat restaurant as you dont want to be sweating and wetting your undergarments when you leave the restaurant after a good meal.
What we actually found interesting was that they serve pretty good dishes. Normal steamboat restaurants dont focus on their dishes as they normally dont engage good chefs and cooks. We ordered the Fried Rice, Lowh Shi Fun, and the Wah Tan Horh.
Without writing at length, i can tell you that the 3 dishes itself is worth a revisit just for it to be a meal without the steamboat.
Having said that, you would know where i am going with this review. The steamboat whilst unique with its rice porridge and pumpkin soup base....is nothing memorable to my palate. My palate won't be craving for a revisit but if i want a quick meal, i would certainly drop in for the Fried Rice, Lowh Shi Fun and Wah Tan Horh!

Read moreIt’s my very first one-star review! What an honour they've truly earned. Wowwweee!
We had such a “delightful” dining experience with them! Highly recommended this one if you are into rude services (:
We arrived at the restaurant at the uncivilised hour of 10ish, blissfully assuming that a place closing at midnight (shows on Google) would, well, remain open for business. Little did we know that they had a surprise in store for us. Yay!
First, a staff asked my dear uncle to move further from where he was seated and might I add, her tone was nothing short of ”heavenly”. But let's not dwell on such minor details, they were just warming up.
Then, came the “delightful” episode with our drinks. We requested a tad of water to dilute the sweetness of a bottled beverage. The “kind” lady nearly added tap water. YO! Can you believe it? Clearly, she must have forgotten that we’re in Malaysia, where chlorinated water flows like a river.
But, dear reader, that’s not why this glowing one-star review is being written. Oh no, the very first 5 minutes into eating, the same lady goddess graced our table with a kettle to refill. She urged us to gobble up our first round of food and empty the pot as if it were our last meal on Earth. The nerve! And she even stood there, patiently waiting for us to empty the pot like we were in some hot pot eating contest.
When we suggested saving the meat for later, she appeared blissfully deaf to our wishes and insisted on her idea. I mean, who cares if my dear mother doesn’t eat meat, right?
Then another “angelic soul” informed us they’d be closing at 11pm. Where’s the logic here? Is this McDonald’s? Did they miscalculate how much time a hot pot dinner would take? Of course, we were granted the privilege of dining there only because the boss was present and we all know how quickly attitudes change after the boss left.
But wait, there’s more! We even received attitude from one of their foreign workers. How splendid! 👏🏻
All this, mind you, you will be forking over a higher price, exceeding China Chinese hot pot to endure such treatment 🙂 I would derive more happiness from a self-service meal at McDonald’s.
All the best to...
Read moreIt's been a while since I visited here, my last visit was like 1 year ago. I've been a frequent patron of this restaurant for more than 10 years. They were located opposite Velocity and then moved to this location in recent years. The reason I stopped coming here 1 year ago is because of their bad treatment and attitude when we walked in. We feel under appreciated despite the support we've given throughout the years. Their service is really nothing to be praised about. The only reason I come back after a year is because I was craving for the pumpkin porridge steamboat.
Notices that prices of some items in the menu have been increased but quite much. The taste of the porridge is still the same. I also noticed a lot of new waitresses have been hired to serve, which is not bad. The bill came in a bit more expensive now compared to last time. The average spent per pax is around rm40-rm50 now, which tax included. You are advised to do advance booking...
