Restoran Siew Ming — Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur

June 2023 - Visited for takeaway 2 fried rice @ RM10/each - full of flavor. Returned for dinner the same day and ordered :-

1. Lala in superior broth @ RM28 - lala is fresh and broth is flavorful.
2. Sweet & Sour Pork @ RM20 (s) - crunchy on the outer and moist on the inner. Sauce is well balanced and nice too.
3. Stir-fry potato leaves @ RM12 (s) - nice
4. Luffa Tofu @ RM15 - we always like this dish. the sauce is very good to go with rice.
5. Refillable hot water (brought own tea leaves) @ RM4
6. Rice @ RM2/pax
7. Braised Yee Mee (takeaway)@ RM10 - tasty but a tad oily.

NOTE-Come early during weekends or make a reservation. crowd is immense!

(2018) Still as good! Siew Ming started off as a small "steamed dishes" only stall operating in the evenings at YYL coffeeshop (now 126) just a few doors away from the present premise. It has now expanded to another shop back to back to the present one where all cookings are done. Not only seating capacity expanded, their menu too has more choices now.

We ordered :-

1. La la in broth @ RM15 - fresh but lacked flavor. Price wise, very reasonable!
2. Egg foo young @ RM 10 - Taste wise was ok but a little wet on the inner, under cooked!
3. Kwai Fah beancurd @ RM 18 - this was good! Beancurd is smooth and the sliced mushroom abalone is tender. Broth too is worth mentioning. It's akin to slurping down spoonfuls of sharksfin but actually glass noodles.
4. Claypot pork belly with salted fish @ RM 20 - tasty, flavorful and very well executed! Only gripe is, the pork belly pieces were a little overcooked, a little tough!
5. Claypot stew lamb belly @ RM 38 - lamb not tender enough and there's tomatoes, yes tomatoes in it so making the taste a little peculiar! I won't order this dish again!
6. Crab meat tofu @ RM16 - Very smooth tofu and the gravy is tasty
7. Sweet & sour pork @ RM15 - Tasty
8. Stir-fry potato leaves @ RM10 - Crunchy and fresh
9. Wat Tan Yin Yang @ RM8 - Nice

Overall, a nice neighborhood "dai chow" restaurant to dine in. Clean and service is good! Prices are reasonable that's why Siew Ming is always packed. Come early, especially on...

I honestly don’t understand where all the good reviews are coming from. If I could, I’d give this place zero stars—it doesn’t even deserve one. The entire staff, including the lady boss, her daughter, and one of the auntie staff, were shockingly rude.

The auntie rushed us to order before we even had time to decide. As we were about to finish our meal, the lady boss abruptly placed a "reserved" sign on our table—an obvious hint to pay up and leave. The daughter was no better—just as impolite and lacking basic courtesy. Maybe it’s a case of “like mother, like daughter,” and the rest of the staff are just following their lead.
