I had a truly disappointing dining experience here. Despite the recent change in ownership of this nostalgic and once-beloved noodle store, the quality has gone from bad to worse.
We waited nearly 30 minutes only to be served dishes that were both unpalatable and overpriced. The pan mee was poorly cooked — the noodles were not drained properly, leaving the dish soggy and unpleasant. The siam glass noodles were overwhelmingly salty, as if sodium had been added carelessly without regard for balance.
The kopi C was another disaster. The water clearly wasn’t hot enough to dissolve the sugar, leaving a drink that was cloyingly sweet and frankly “diabetes-inducing.” This is basic preparation, and it should never have gone wrong.
To make matters worse, the hygiene standards were shockingly poor. The cooks were handling food without masks or gloves, which is a blatant disregard for simple food safety guidelines. This is unacceptable, especially for a restaurant with such a longstanding reputation.
The only redeeming items were the soy cincau and braised trotters, which were decent — but they weren’t enough to salvage the...
Read moreHeard it’s famous and tasty, hence came quite a long way with a friend to give it a try.
My friend was quite happy with the meal but I thought there are rooms for improvement.
So we both have one small chilli pan mee on our own, and we ordered an a la carte char siew for sharing.
For chilli pan mee I wish they already do all the flavouring instead of having the chilli powder on side for us to add in on our own. I understand that’s convenient for customers to adjust the spiciness to own liking, but it took a few bites for me to really able to adjust to some optimal taste. If they were to give customers options, I would suggest they have a few spicy level for customers to choose upon order than giving the chilli powder to customer to make their own.
I like that the side small soup came with quite some green. But the char siew was very underwhelming to be honest. The cut is not even at all, some are thicker than the others, not consistent.
Also, for people who love pork lard, there were a few options for you to take on your own, no limitation but do note that it’s not the healthiest...
Read moreThe world's spiciest pan mee truly deserves its reputation. I have always been big fan of spicy food and to give a quick reference, I enjoy spicy instant noodles like Pedas Giler x3 or Mamee Ghost Pepper.
The noodle itself when it was served looks normal and not intimidating, as it wasn't anything red in color. The spiciness starts kicking in after the second or third bite, where there is a sudden growing sense of spiciness. After few munch, the whole mouth will be filled with the hot sensation and it was rather difficult to finish.
Undeniably the noodle doesn't commensurate with the price. It was for me an experience that I had to try considering so many unsuccessful attempts by different people.
Once I have gotten over the spiciness within the lips, tongue, inner mouth and throat, it is easier to finish the whole bowl of noodle.
The after effects of the noodle is another experience to consider, which in all honesty, this noodle is really not meant for everyone. The after effects lasted about 3 - 4 hours which was constant stomach...
