I reviewed this based on my own experiences in the restaurant. I went there for dinner with my family member. To be honest, it can be considered as a horrible experience for me as this is my 1st time trying Japanese's sushi buffet. First of all, we're coming in during non-peak hours and there are only 3 tables of customers included us in the restaurant. However, the sushi took a long time to be served, and at last it didn't taste good and unfresh.....The Cawanmushi is weird and served cold....The tamago mentai is even disgusting to me. I almost vomited when I ate it. We do communicate and ask for something from a few of their waitresses, like a few slices of lemon, a bill, and refill for our drinks, but obviously they are not well-trained and don't even understand English or Malay....They served the foods separately, but we ordered the same food at the same time, just in a different amount... Their waitress served the wrong items, and they also didn't mention what they served.....There are only two workers who know how to communicate with customers which are one of the waiters with black shirt and one of the waitress with apron. The desserts—Yuzu Ice melted, and there was a lot of foam (idk why like that, looks weird actually), and there was no yuzu flavour at all. It tastes like you were eating soap or aromatherapy. And, The sashimi is served without ice to ensure it stays fresh while we enjoy it, but the other customers do have it...So, we do ask for it. And the explanation was that the ice just arrived at the time. Ok then, the sashimi afterwards was served with ice. So, i see the other customers do have ice because their ice has arrived, but our ice is still on the flight from Japan to Malaysia. It can be seen that, their chefs and their workers are lack of training and really unprofessional.
Some suggestion for their management teams: Please ensure that all the foods, ingredients are fresh and at the right temperature before being served to the customer. Provide training for their workers to ensure that the services are good since we do pay for service tax....but what we get is bad service. Please ensure items are served correctly and check the customer's order. Trying not all of the workers just gather at the dining entrance to serve the food. Please also look around to see whether customers need what. Please improve food quality and...
Read moreThe whole thing got promoted on socmed is already a big warning sign.. but I thought of giving it a try since it’s quite expensive and won’t be too bad from the five stars reviews. Oh god. I was terribly wrong! Never ever trust those socmed recommendations. They are either paid for or untrue.
It started with hiccups from the very beginning. Orders were not patched through and we were just waiting for about half an hour for nothing.
Then followed up lost waiters. Clearing off cutleries we were using and empty tea cups that were never refilled. Even with those hiccups and their lost soul searching atmosphere, the bill did not come as it is. Long list of items we’ve ordered that never made it to the table even after we asked and were told to just order it over again and still not showing up. Total of 70+ dishes and only 25 or so showed up… that is a real sham in the making. Shame on the establishment really!
Some of food served were mushy like the seafood. They were definitely not fresh with frozen bites after taste. Their skewers were really basic too with burnt bits. Maybe someone like the burnt way? Idk but that is definitely not the Japanese way.
The saving grace was probably the Aircon is on throughout the dinner but you won’t be feeling cold. It’s kind of lukewarm feeling bordering sweating atmosphere and the place is only occupied like 10 tables on a weekday.
Definitely not worth the price nor the food quality living up its standard. Better off to any Japanese restaurant and ordering a la carte for two comes with better value for this.
Sashimi servings were thick cuts but that’s also for the first round only. And they will come to you and said the order didn’t make it through to the kitchen or the squid has run out of stocks.
Felt like it’s worth of 50 bucks per person value and not more. Definitely would not be returning nor recommending it anymore unless you...
Read moreWhen I saw the buffet menu and the price of RM99 (before taxes and stuff), I couldn't believe it. How in the hell is this place surviving? I was amazed by the fact that the numerous unagi dishes weren't in the premium section. Given all this, I had to check it out.
I reserved a spot for a Sunday afternoon (12pm). I did this the previous night without worry - the reservation process was pretty easy. Out of curiosity, I checked the slots again on Sunday morning and it was literally all full. So be warned: plan your visit at least a day in advance.
Plaza Arkadia is an open air mall, but the izakaya itself is indoors, and therefore air conditioned, so don't worry about that.
Just sit at one of the tables, even if you're going alone or with a partner. The staff used the counter to place various used plates and cutlery, so suffice it to say that the "counter seat" doesn't exist here.
As far as the dishes go, they were quite sizeable. I had copious amount of the unagi mentaiyaki - although it was prepared more as unagi kabayaki. Not that I'm complaining as that's my favourite version of the dish.
The salmon (belly included), tuna and buttermilk sashimi were the other dishes that I consumed, as well as the unagi slider bun (it has carbs so if you're min-maxing your time there, just order the mentaiyaki version). For the price I paid, I loved the food that I got.
One small blemish was the time I had to wait between each order of mine arriving. The worst was when my order came 45 minutes after I sent it. It was understandable since the place was full pretty much after it opened, and the kitchen staff couldn't have numbered more than 10, but it was still annoying having to wait that long.
All in all, an amazing buffet experience, even if there was a lot of downtime in between each...
