Update: been back 2x since the first visit. Tried the clear seafood to yum soup which did not disappoint (tip: level 1 spiciness will be OK for most Malaysians). The squid with salted egg is more-ish and goes well with rice. The crispy catfish salad was well executed - like what you would find in Thailand. Isan sausages were smokey and garlicky. Pad Thai and Thu thim kroob were average. Also tried their desserts. All were good. One of my favorite Thai restaurants in the Klang Valley.
Thai Tae sustains a solid 4 from me for the sheer delicious food served. The menu offers an impressive array of Thai food - from the popular ones to the rare crispy catfish Thai salad.
The standout for me was the humble Thai style omelette. Crispy on the outside and yet fluffy inside - a demo of the cooking kungfu of the chef. The fried sea bass with spicy herb salad was a close second. An impressive dish - and just like what you would find in Thailand. The 3 style pork set was pretty to look at and tasty. Thankfully not dry! The last two - chicken green curry and sweetcorn salad - rounded a great meal even though the former was a tad oily.
Service could be better. Each of the dishes took time to come - as if I was being served in a Chinese banquet meal. Strangely the green curry (normally precooked?) came last.
Ambience was normal - modern and clean cafe restaurant style. Air conditioning could be better.
Will be back to work...

Thai Tae Restaurant is my absolute favorite go-to for authentic Thai food, and for excellent reason! This place is genuinely cool, run by actual Thai people, ensuring a true taste of Thailand right here in Kuala Lumpur. When my friends from Bangkok visited, I brought them here for dinner, and they even highly praised the restaurant, which speaks volumes about its authenticity! Every dish is a winner, but I particularly love their BBQ pork, the perfectly fried fish, the fiery Tom Yum, and the refreshing Som Tum. The flavors are incredibly rich and strong, perfectly complementing a generous serving of rice.
The space itself is on the smaller side and can get quite packed, with tables very near each other, so you might need to reserve ahead for a big group and navigate carefully. However, the slightly cozy setup just adds to its charm.
Despite the prime flavors, the food is reasonably priced for such generous portions. On my last visit, we enjoyed a delicious spread of pork mince with double duck egg, duck egg vegetables, and BBQ pork, all for less than RM68 – incredible value!
Parking can be a bit tricky, but there's an open parking area just up the slope by the road, making it manageable. For an authentic and incredibly flavorful Thai meal that even impresses Bangkok locals, Thai Tae is the...
Read moreIt was Sunday afternoon when I visited Thai Tae, but parking was not so difficult as I could find a lot right in front of the shop. Ordered Fried pork belly (22.50), Somtam (14.90), Somtam with salted egg (15.00), Phat Thai chicken (12.90), cockle spicy salad (25.00), rice vermicelli (2.00), lemon grass with Pandan tea (4.50), Thai longan tea (4.50), mineral water (3.00).
Fried pork belly was crispy and crunchy, and more flavourful with spicy dipping sauce. It was unfortunate I could not have it with beer as I was driving. :P Traditional Somtam was nice, but Somtam made with corn and salted egg was even nicer as I have never tried such Somtam at other Thai restaurants here. It really go with vermicelli. Phat Thai was tasty with generous portion of chicken. It was a little on sweet side, but with chilli flakes, you could made it just right. Cockle spicy salad was another hit of the day as chunky cockles were served with really spicy yet savoury sauce. I liked it as they were not overly cooked. Will I come back? Yes, for sure as there are more in their menu such as Grilled Pork Neck that I’d...
