I’ve been dining at Venus Bistro (formerly Steven’s Corner) for some time. The food has always been excellent with no complaints at all about quality. However, the service experience has been inconsistent and, frankly, disappointing.
Several times, my 6-year-old daughter has asked for roti canai, only to be told it’s available “after 3 pm.” We’ve always respected that rule and ordered something else. But yesterday, at around 1:30 pm, a group of customers walked in, ordered multiple plates of roti canai (with various combinations), and were served without hesitation.
When I asked the same staff member who has previously refused my daughter’s request, he quickly said it was an “exception for kids.” That explanation made no sense as my daughter is a child, and she has been denied the same request multiple times.
It’s hard not to feel that there is some favouritism at play whether it’s for certain regulars, acquaintances, or even based on ethnicity. That’s not just poor service, it’s unfair treatment.
The only reason I still come here is because the food is genuinely good and it’s close to home. But great food can’t make up for service that makes some customers feel less welcome...
Read moreA very well known place especially when their peak time around early 90s. I remember the time when is named Steven corner the place was so full taking a lot of the outside road and not surprised to see around 100 square table around. Now they nestled in so much smaller space perhaps due to compliance and complaints.
The menu are somewhat still similar and taste like last time. Ordered maggie goreng with fried chicken & egg and also roti pisang. For drink ordered milo ice. Roti pisang are ok and this kind of taste can be find at normal mamak.
The maggie goreng was good. Taste nostalgic and they have added sprinkles of lime into it. Taste very good. Fried chicken are ok. Not so crispy and a bit dry. Telur mata are overcooked.
Milo ice taste below average although a standard drink option in mamak.
Overall their food are worth to try. Previous week ordered their roti bakar are still very good. You can also try it with cheese. Their konloo noodles which they use their own sauce taste good too. Recommend this...

Been going here for years (since I was a kid and it wasn’t at a corner). It’s been going downhill ever since but was hopeful after the renovation (or concept change).
It’s the same quality but more expensive now. Banana leaf is small, which means first round rice and veggie portion is small (scoops and curry pots all smaller now to discourage you from asking for more portion).
What’s worse is the service coz now more people but less efficient. When you ask to top up, they’ll give you half a small scoop which makes you feel worse for asking; and it’s a miracle in itself if they even attend to your table.
When I was about to pay - the queue to the cashier blocked the entrance and you’re constantly being bumped into by other customers and staff.
Will probs only go back in a year to see if it’s any different but I’ll probably not look forward to it too.
Also - COLD fried tenggiri for 10 ringgit is wild. It’s insane for OUG prices when you can get hot stuff from...
