Subject: Disappointing Experience at Damascus Gate.
I am writing to express my profound disappointment with the service and treatment I received at Damascus Gate during my visit on 3/4. As a customer, I believe it's essential to provide feedback, especially when the experience falls far below expectations.
Despite not being Muslim, my companions and I chose to fast in observance of Ramadan. We made a reservation through the phone in advance, expecting to have a pleasant iftar experience at your establishment. However, our experience was marred by sheer neglect and discrimination.
Upon arrival at 7 p.m., the time for iftar, we noticed a glaring discrepancy: while non-Muslim patrons at smaller tables were left without any food, the staff were bustling around preparing meals solely for larger groups of Muslim customers. It felt as though we were invisible to them.
Despite waiting for over 20 minutes, our food failed to materialize. Meanwhile, I watched as other tables received their meals promptly and commenced dining. We were left with nothing but beverages and kurma, and our attempts to attract the attention of the staff by ringing the bell went unnoticed.
It was only after I approached one of your employees and expressed my frustration that our food finally arrived, accompanied by an apology. This incident left me questioning whether your establishment practices racial discrimination, prioritizing service to Muslim patrons over others. How would a curious individual seeking to learn about Islam feel if they were treated in this manner? Such treatment not only reflects poorly on your restaurant but also risks alienating potential patrons.
Regarding the quality of the food, it was mediocre at best. The watermelon juice had an unpleasant sour taste, reminiscent of spoilage.
Having previously patronized other Arabic restaurants where we were treated with humility and warmth, this experience at your establishment left me feeling disrespected and disheartened. I firmly believe that every customer deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or beliefs.
Ultimately, I left your restaurant feeling not only disappointed but also deeply disillusioned. I regret to say that I will not be returning to Damascus Gate in the future. It's my hope that you will take this feedback seriously and work towards ensuring that all customers are treated equally and respectfully...
Read moreFIRSTLY, i bought shawarma set with chicken slices and sandwiches in it. the RM30 one but look at my pic. i cant see any chicken slice there? wth? the tax price and service price is also so high. total is RM31.80. with the service that i get? lmao what a joke. i noticed about the menu after looking at other reviews' pics. AND i bought this at around 10:10pm today. ate it as soon as we arrived home around 10:49pm. i kid u not, the moment im trying to eat it, i already smelled smtg mcm basi. but i still eat bc i thought still fresh or maybe im the one thats not used to this flavor (even though ive tasted shawarma from other places already). i even asked my family if the smell is basi or not. but both of us shrug it off and think its just the pickle. i still eat it bc i think i already eat half of it, so ill just finish another few left. dont want to membazir since its pricey and other than rasa basi from tomatoes and cucumber, the rest is okay. but honestly, I THINK THE TOMATO IS ALREADY ROTTEN. im not sure about pickle cucumber's smell but the tomato indeed smell basi. dahla double standard. i ordered takeaway, i asked already if i can sit inside bc outside was raining at that time. the first waiter which is the cashier at that time (also who explained grumpily to me when i asked about the differences in menu and price) said its fine for me to sit anywhere but then after few seconds, another waiter said i have to wait outside bc i ordered takeaway shawarma. i told him the other waiter said i can sit anywhere and he still insist for me to wait outside. theres no other customer as u can see in the pic. but i still agreed and sit outside, with 2 of the workers smoking near the shawarma kitchen and my place. mind u, few minutes after, theres an arabian lady (idk if its their friend or not but meh wtv) come and the service instantly went so high, opening the door being smiley and friendly and more. double standard? idk? but i do get offended. overall, NOT...
Read moreI recently visited Damascus Restaurant in Melaka, a spacious venue that seems promising at first glance. Unfortunately, my dining experience left me a bit disappointed.
The food didn't live up to expectations. I had hoped to try the chicken and lamb set, but to my dismay, the lamb was sold out. The waiter suggested the lamb kebab as an alternative, but it was just average—not bad, but nothing special. The chicken is tasteless.
I also ordered the mushroom soup, which started off overly salty from the first sip. As I continued eating, the soup thickened, and the saltiness became overwhelming. I asked the waiter for hot water to help balance it out, but he informed me that they don't serve hot water. When I mentioned the soup was too salty and thick, he offered to adjust the taste. However, when it was brought back, the soup was still salty, though it was less thick.
I ordered shawarma,so far so good. But then we can't finished it. Then I told the waiters to take away. When I reached home,I realised the food is not as much as we had. I'm not sure about the shawarma, but I realised the vege is so less & the slice of the beef is gone.
Overall, the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, but the food and service didn’t quite meet my expectations. While the staff tried to be helpful, the quality of the food didn't justify the visit &...
