My delightful experience in the Authentic Nyonya Cuisine restaurant in Melaka.
In the beginning we were excited to meet a friend in this restaurant and we are from outstation and naturally as senior citizens after travelling for a long distance, we would like to ease ourselves as we reached the destination. I headed to the male toilet after easing myself I realised there is no way flush but there are few taps on the wall. I turned the tap no .1 , there was no running water, (as in the uploaded photo), turn tap no. 2 , no water too . . . and look around, I saw tap no. 3 and turned it on . . . Lo and behold nearly my entire shirt was drenched with water! It was from a shower head above me! Never have I never had such an experience before in a public toilet! Why in the world do you have a shower head in the restaurant toilet!? ( Later I was told it existed long before the restaurant took place) Do the customers go to the restaurant to dine and take a shower also? I am shocked, I felt like the shower was "a booby trap"! What am I to do now? My shirt is soaking wet ! Panic ran to my heart, felt embarrassed, frustrated and annoyed with this predicament! I can't change my shirt because I don't bring a spare shirt. We are going to meet a friend in Nyonya restaurant to eat, not going to the water theme park! As I walked out, I saw a waitress and I told her what had happened and she apologised and handed me the restaurant tissue not a dry towel . . . Anyway it's fine to me as long as I could dry up my drenched shirt. Nearby was a waiter who asked his mate what had happened. See him as a male, I told him he should be well aware of such incidents might occur and they should take proper steps to avoid such incidents. He went to the toilet and turned on the tap 1 and 2 and this time the water was just gusting out. He then lectured me how their water system works! He had the audacity to tell that I don't have the COMMON SENSE! . . !. Oh Wow! This is the hospitality I received as a guest from this authentic Baba Nyonya restaurant. Is this the way to go?. I thought the authentic Baba Nyonya etiquette would be polite, gracious and "sopan-santon" especially to the senior citizens. I got another shock from this staff, it really blew me off - what a shocker!
I had totally lost my appetite but it was because of my friend, we remained in that place and continued the appointment. My spouse and friend ordered the meno. Suddenly there were three bowls of chedol served which was not on the order list. It was told by the waitress that a compliment from the restaurant manager was a gesture of apology. There was no sight of the manager found or to ease the fiasco. I just wondered is this the model of business ethics and etiquette? This is my first ever encounter of such a kind in the Baba Nyonya Restaurant "Lin Neo Delight" in Melaka which I don't wish to look forward to...

After the disappointing detour we had last weekend at The Kam Cheng restaurant, today felt like a homecoming — a triumphant return to Lin Neo Delight, where the soul of Peranakan cuisine is lovingly preserved and served with pride.
Dining here with my family was not just a meal — it was a celebration of heritage, flavour, and heart. Every dish whispered stories of old Nyonya kitchens, each bite transporting us back to tradition and tastefulness. Here’s our royal decree on the dishes we savoured: Sambal Sotong – ★★★★★ A fiery, fragrant delight. Fresh, tender squid soaked in spicy sambal — a masterpiece on its own. Pongteh Pork – ★★★★★ Meltingly tender pork in rich, comforting fermented bean gravy. It felt like a warm hug from Nenek herself. Chap Chai – ★★★★☆ A hearty medley of vegetables, each element still crisp and soaking in the gentle, savoury essence of home. Cili Garam Ikan Tenggiri – ★★★★☆ Perfectly fried mackerel, harmoniously balanced with sambal garam — bold yet refined. Cendol – ★★★★★ (If we could give 10 stars, we would!) The crown jewel of the meal. A heavenly concoction of silky green strands, luscious gula Melaka, finely shaved ice, creamer, and salted coconut milk. A divine blend of sweet, salt, and cream — unforgettable and utterly majestic. Bubur Cha Cha – ★★★★★ A comforting bowl of nostalgia. Smooth yam and sweet potato swimming in a creamy, fragrant coconut broth. A dessert that soothes the soul.
In summary: Lin Neo Delight remains the reigning queen of Peranakan cuisine in our hearts. Authentic, heartfelt, and absolutely memorable.
We left not just with full stomachs, but with full hearts.

Read moreLin Neo is always our family's to go nyonya restaurant when it comes to dining out. Their food is still quite nice as I remember. Lemak nenas udang is creamy but sweet, we prefer the slightly sour tangy with the pineapple kind that's pack with oomph to up your appetite but the prawns given were generous and big. Cincalok omelette is quite nice, although we can't really pin point wheres the Cincalok prolly it's all smashed up but you can taste the fermentation in the egg quite moderately strong. Kangkung belacan was not belacan-y enough for me, the sambal was also more on the sweet side too. Cili garam ikan average only, I prefer my sambal cili garam to be smoky, spicy with heat and slight salty coz you know "cili" and "garam" but theirs was just like normal sweet sambal that's not even spicy. Cendol is still as good as I remember, generous with the gula melaka and fresh coconut santan. Price is definitely affordable. Overall taste still good, not very commercialised, and definitely still maintaining the standard despite the increasing popularity with tourists. Flavor wise it's on the sweeter scale. I'd say it's one of the better authentic traditional nyonya cuisines I'd recommend to outsiders. Well at least alot of uncle aunty elderlies love...
