Lovely Curry Debal aka Devils curry. Mildly fiery not overly hot. We have been to this Restaurant on several occasions, good food, consistent food quality and reasonably priced. You can request your Vegetables to be cooked in Garlic or Sambal. Serving sizes are decent. You can request for smaller serving size if you like. Beers are sold cold, by the bottle (Big) in chilled glasses. For the several times I have been here, there has been no attempt to overcharge. The Lala featured in pics below was decent and they have the lovely Mu Liu i.e., egg plant cooked in a very interested sauce. Not many restaurants serve the Mu Liu, so it's a must try here.

We stopped in the afternoon for a drink and a snack at this local restaurant in front of the sea at the Portuguese settlement. We had delicious fried squid, and enjoyed a very interesting conversation with Fil, the lady working at the place. She also spoke Portuguese, learnt from her family that still teaching at home since many generations. It was quiet due to Ramadan period, but that allowed us to enjoy conversation and the peaceful atmosphere of the settlement. If we come back, definitely will try their fish for dinner.

The food here is very tasty and the Portuguese baked fish is highly recommended. It was priced reasonably as well. You get enjoy good authentic food and drinks by the sea side. Down side of this area is that you will be surrounded by people from different shops upon arrival to persistently trying to solicitate you into going to their shop. The experience could be quite overwhelming but they will leave you in peace once you have made up your mind. Still, would recommend for a visit😉

Food tastes good and and pleasant. Drinks pretty expensive. Food prices very high. For a 5-pax :-

  1. min charge is RM30.00 per plate for deep-fried batter squid,
  2. Baked Spicy Stingray minimum charge is RM45.00 for about 5/6 small slices,
  3. Baked Portugese Brinjal for RM12.00,
  4. A bowl of Ginger Soup Lala for a minimum of RM30.00,
  5. A medium sized plate of mix vege - RM12.00 and
  6. A whopping RM60.00 a plate of medium-sized Butter Prawns with about 8 pieces only.
  7. plus Rice at RM2.00 per pax irrespective of how much or little one takes.

Drink charges are exorbitant at

  1. RM2.00 for Warm Chinese Tea per glass.
  2. A Small cup of 150 cc of Carrot Juice at RM5.00 per cup and
  3. RM5.00 for a cup of warm Lime juice without sugar.

Food was good but prices are on the high side. Preferably prices should not be touristic and pricey.

Yes there are crowds and for tourist they will come but the establishment has lost the local patrons for their prices are so high. This is good only when tourists comes but come any pandemic -forced closure, the business will suffer!

My honest advice to all proprietors there is to....Think of Long Term Survival and Customer Loyalty Program.

Perhaps there could be a Special Loyalty Program introduced eg. Loyalty Card for Frequent Patrons with 10% on total charges. Eg. -

  1. RM350 - 10% on food before 6% Govt. Tax OR FREE one...

My husband and I have read the reviews having in mind with the other stall before we went there. Since it's still early, we got to talk to the lady and she's telling us that only the first five stalls now truly own by the Portuguese while the other five the owners are Chinese. Since we come here for Portuguese food, we want to try the food from them, stall no. 2. We have no regrets, unlike many other reviews saying the food is not good. Yes we ordered prawn nestum with nesturm just sprinkle on top, we don't mind, this is Portuguese style not Chinese we're looking at, the taste is yummy. We don't eat spicy so ordered a grilled fish and muliu, the baked Brinjal. All are tasy and fresh. The total price is 123. We enjoy...

A few people approached us just as we parked the car and invited us to their restaurants. When we picked this one (Stall2), the lady actually told another guy off when he asked us to visit his restaurant (she said, “They are mine,” loud enough for us to hear). We dropped by after having some drinks elsewhere and she went, “oh, you went other place?” Uh, myob pls. While ordering we noticed this is just like any seafood restaurant out there, except with a smaller menu. Overpriced (RM12 for a plate of garlic fried kangkung, we spent RM94 for 3 guests). This restaurant does not serve Portuguese food. We’re not impressed at all that a hotel manager in town recommended this...
