ShanGri Spicy Restaurant @Melaka — Restaurant in Malacca

My daughter in law brought us here to try out the mala dishes this Hunan based cookery specialises in.

Because its located in Pulau Melaka, parking is easy and the shop itself is easy to find..... basically located on the main road stretch.

It serves many savoury dishes, and all are reasonably priced. If you like spicy old world style taste, this place is recommended!

This being our first trip here we were glad and excited that this restaurant is here! I've been looking for a tasty mala based hunan type restaurant all over Melaka.

We took the private room upstairs. Service itself was smooth, friendly and prompt. The dishes here have the true authentic China taste, fresh ingredients and with refreshing old school cooking taste!

Handful with kids and hungry so only managed to take picture after all full. Recommended dishes are: Sour vege fish soup: fish was tender and mild spicy, kid enjoyed the fish. Take note they use whole fish tho so there’s lotsa bones which may take out the fun in eating, have to be careful not to choke -Saliva chicken: flavourful and not too crazy spicy, seasoning just right, chicken tender. Spicy hand pulled cabbage Cold cucumber dish steamed egg was last to come but it was okey, different as shown in menu tho as it had minced meat, for le kids

The worst dish was the pork knuckle stirfry, for RM42 I expected at least some meat? All I got was bones and pork skin. The skin wasn’t even tender or melt in the mouth, needed more cooking. Hence less one star.

This was a disappointing experience for me as I was bringing guests from overseas to this restaurant. Firstly, the menu was written in Chinese and had pictures. So, we had to ask the waitress what it was as we couldn't identify the type of meat & vegetables from the pictures alone. Not only was the menu in Chinese but the waitress also could not explain anything in Malay or English. Finally, after ordering, we waited for at least 1hr and no food arrived eventhough we repeatedly asked for our orders. At last we ended up cancelling the order & took off somewhere else. They should put an advert outside their door that this restaurant is for Chinese speaking patrons only. The waitress said it would take 30 min. However, the food still did not arrive...
