Update (11 October, 2023): Back the next day, this time for the 'flying noodles' (very savoury with generous amounts of ingredients especially pork slices and leafy greens), gluttonous rice with chicken, homemade dumpling, and curry mixed vegetable. Personally I prefer curry that are richer and milkier but this was by no means bad. Everything else was delicious and hit the right notes. This place is a solid five stars. Did I mention that prices were very reasonable?
10 October 2023: New find for me in CH. Great ambience and service. The braised pork egg noodle (wan tan mee) was excellent. The meat was thoroughly marinated and every bite was flavourful. Would've been perfect if the noodles were al dente. It was a little too soggy during my visit. The curry noodles, although not the thick and creamy type that I love, was still very flavourful with the requisite spices tickling the palate. The broth had a lot of sediments from the blended spices which added to the flavour. The surprise here was the handmade steamed pork dumpling (shumai). As this place isn't a dimsum joint, we didn't expect much but what we had surprised us. Long story short, it had good texture and tasted better than some of the dimsum places I've been to - savoury but balanced with the sweetness of carrot slices and other stuffing. The BBQ pork puff was also very good. I prefer a juicier filling, but taste-wise there was nothing to fault it. This shop's corner-lot location made for an airy dining area, perfect for a late breakfast and a cup of coffee while soaking in the cool breeze. It is definitely going into our CH go-to list. We'll be back for more. Did I mention that prices were very fair...
Read moreIt was actually more like a brunch as we reached Man Kou Xiang around 10am++, when most people have already finished their breakfast earlier and a lot of items were finished (we were informed by the one taking our order).
Located in the heart of Brinchang town, they have plenty of food options to suit so many of us. Why did I give 3-star for service & atmosphere is because the pace was excruciatingly slow, as they took time to prepare one table's order.. one by one. If you have grumpy kids or elderly in the group, then it might spell trouble. Also the shop was quite cramped and hard to move around.
Food: ◾Wantan mee with braised meat was the highlight with its flavourful meat and QQ noodle. ◾Strawberry nasi lemak was another signature but they ran out of strawberry infused rice.. so they replaced with choice of white or oil rice. Sambal was too Chinese-y with lots of dried shrimp inside making it love-it-or-hate-it affair. ◾Braised soy sauce chicken made the mark while the char siew was a bit too cloying with the sweet sauce. ◾Ginger egg soup noodle was flavourful and nice for the morning weather ◾Fish head noodle was not too shabby but can't compare to my favourite. ◾Soup noodle would be nice for those who wanted something simple in the morning. ◾Curry noodle was fairly nice but lacking in ingredients ◾Dry pan Mee with pork slices was the weakest with bland sauce ◾Try their signature...
Read moreI recently had lunch at Man Kou Xiang Kopitiam, and the food was exceptional. The chicken feet were super soft and delicious, the butter chicken was great, and the prawn omelette was also a hit.
However, the service was disappointing. We ordered three white rice but only received two. After waiting for a few minutes without any attention, we were finally informed that white rice was finished and only nasi minyak was available. This lack of communication and professionalism really detracted from the overall experience.
Despite this, the food quality was good enough that I will likely visit again. Regarding the fly infestation mentioned in other reviews, we didn't encounter any issues during our visit, although I did notice a fly trap full of flies on the wall. Additionally, they only serve fish head in their fish dishes, using fish cake instead of actual fish meat, which a helpful staff member pointed out while we were ordering.
Overall, the food at Man Kou Xiang Kopitiam is worth a visit, but be prepared for possible service issues.
You could havr gotten a 5 bbut getting only 2 because...
