This café came highly recommended by my son, and we finally got the chance to try it during our KL-Satun- Krabi-Penang-Ipoh road trip.

I feel compelled to give a detailed review because it’s clear the owner has put a lot of heart into the place. While it’s not a heavily funded setup, the effort behind the décor and overall vibe is commendable.

KH Guide & Rating: Accessibility: 5/5 A great pit stop for travelers along the KL–Penang route, offering surprisingly range of good food.

Cleanliness: 4/5 Overall clean and above average in terms of hygiene. Upkeep and maintenance in the next focus.

Ambience: 4.5/5 A modern take on a traditional kopitiam. I’d say it’s even better than some of the well-known, publicly listed chains.

Food Quality: • Curry Mee: Savoury and packed with flavor. It leans on the stronger side in taste—prepare for a bold, satisfying experience. • Nasi Nyonya with Turmeric Fried Chicken: A standout dish. The chicken was incredibly crispy with a rich turmeric aroma, and the blue Nyonya rice was both tasty and filling. • Kaya Butter Toast: Slightly mediocre. The kaya was a bit too sweet, which masked its natural aroma. A less sweet version could elevate it. • Steamed Bread with Chicken Curry: Comforting and flavorful—reminds me of home-cooked meals which not to be missed especially during time time hours.

Pricing: 4.5/5 Fair and offers good value for money.

Attentiveness: 4.5/5 Despite arriving at 2:30 PM and seeing a crowd, we were seated within 5 minutes after queue number is provided. Food was served promptly and efficiently.

Would I visit again? Definitely, yes.

Bonus points: A thoughtful touch—staff made a public announcement when local council officers came around checking for unpaid parking tickets, which saved us from getting fined. Much...

Look, this is it. Salvation and salivation for the working class. Nestled in a quietish corner in Ipoh Garden East, is a kopitiam that has people lining up to enter, especially during lunch hour. Kopitiams are a dime a dozen here, but what makes Dong Tai stand out is simply, they have nothing of note to fault.

I've been here many times, came alone, or brought my family and friends here and each time, food is on point, drinks are on point, prices are reasonable, and wow the service! The service is blazing fast! Manned by a youthful and eager team, they take orders, carry your food, respond to your queries and attend to your needs so fast I suspect their salaries are higher than mine.

For the main courses, the nasi lemak, nasi Nyonya, nasi kukus, assam laksa, curry noodles, wonton noodles and prawn noodles are good. I haven't even covered the snacks, so here they are. Egg toast, kaya butter toast and polo bun are worthy addictions to your meal.

Drinks, I really enjoyed the white coffee, robust, creamy and aromatic... With the right balance of bitter and sweet. Highly recommended. The other drinks are no slouch either, but I always go back to my iced white coffee.

So like I said, overall one of the outstanding kopitiams in Ipoh. Nothing much to fault, covers everything well and won't burn a hole in your pocket. Now enjoy...

We came here for afternoon tea due to high recommendation from my brother, and Dong Tai did not disappoint. The coffee (both hot and cold) was very kau and full of flavour. The toast took a bit longer to arrive but was worth the wait! So crispy and delicious! While their toast and coffee were great, the best thing about Dong Tai is their top notch service! Coming here with kids and a big family, we had to wait for a big table (10 pax) but the staff patiently gathered smaller empty tables as patrons were leaving to combine into a long table. In the process, they were always courteous to let us know if they would let someone else (after us) enter first when they had a smaller table available.

While dining, one of us accidentally knocked over a cup of iced coffee and spilled all over the table and floor, but the staff came over and cleaned up in no time with no complaints. Best of all, they gave us a replacement coffee even though this accident was no fault of theirs! It is safe to say they have now gained repeat customers in us, not just for food but for their impeccable service. I highly recommend you give them...
