I recently visited Kaffein Kopitiam in Ipoh, and it turned out to be a pleasant and satisfying experience. The place has a stylish yet casual vibe blending the charm of a traditional kopitiam with a more modern, comfortable setting. It’s clean, well-lit, and feels like a good hangout spot whether you’re having a slow breakfast, catching up with friends, or just enjoying a solo coffee break.
I ordered soft boiled eggs, white coffee, curry chee cheong fun, and garlic bread and each item had its own highlight.
The soft boiled eggs were done just right silky whites and rich, runny yolks. They were served with a dash of light soy sauce and white pepper, and paired beautifully with toast or on their own. It’s simple, but when done right like this, it really hits the spot.
Next, the white coffee was excellent. It had a deep, aromatic roast and a creamy texture that wasn’t overly sweet just balanced and satisfying. It’s definitely one of the better white coffees I’ve had at a kopitiam, and I’d go back just for this.
The curry chee cheong fun was surprisingly hearty. The rice noodle rolls were smooth and soft, and the curry had a thick, rich consistency with just the right level of heat. It came with some fried toppings and tofu pieces, making it feel like a full meal on its own. The curry was fragrant and flavorful, not too oily, and had that comforting homemade taste.
As for the garlic bread, it was crisp on the outside and soft inside, with a strong garlic butter aroma. It might seem like a Western touch in a kopitiam, but it paired well with the rest of the meal especially the coffee.
One thing to note is that the prices here are a little higher compared to your average kopitiam, but honestly, the quality of the food, presentation, and ambiance justifies it. You're paying not just for the meal, but for the overall experience and it delivers.
Kaffein Kopitiam is a great spot in Ipoh if you’re looking for familiar local flavors with a slight modern edge. It’s a bit more upscale than your standard corner coffee shop, but in return, you get good food, great coffee, and a nice space to relax. Definitely worth a visit especially if you're a coffee lover or just want to enjoy a leisurely...
Read moreI’ve had my eye on Kaffeine Kopitiam for quite some time, especially after a friend treated me to their croissant once. Even when eaten cold, it was still very good—crispy outside, fluffy inside—so I decided to visit in person for breakfast with my family.
The atmosphere is cosy and air-conditioned, which makes it a comfortable spot to relax. In the morning, it’s pleasantly quiet without feeling empty. The staff are warm and friendly, and I truly felt welcomed.
Food: • Prawn Noodles: This dish could use some improvement. The broth lacked the depth of umami I was hoping for. The prawns were fresh and without any alkaline aftertaste, which is a plus, but overall the flavour could be enhanced. • Toast with Pandan Kaya: A highlight! The bread was crispy, and the kaya—presumably house-made—was fragrant and paired beautifully with the toast. • Soft-Boiled Eggs: Perfectly done and served with a nice touch—the staff even cracked them open for me. That small service detail stood out. • Asam Laksa: This one didn’t quite meet expectations. The fish flesh was barely visible, and the broth lacked punch. That said, the fresh sliced onions were a nice touch.
Drinks & Desserts: • Red Bean Soup: Lovely and comforting, just the right sweetness. • Lemon Tea: Not overly sweet, which I appreciate, but it could use a stronger, more refreshing lemon tang. • Coffee: Standard quality, nothing to complain about.

Read moreKopitiam like these are popping up everywhere these days. What they need to do is have signature dishes that puts them ahead rather than serving up the same usual trope. I find Kaffeine offering pork stomach being one of the rare feature. However, the blanched bee hoon carried some water used to rehydrate the vermicelli, diluting the broth and making the umami less pronounced. The polo bun was pretty bad as it is too compact and hard. While polo buns are not supposed to be airy and light, it also shouldn't be this compact. The crust is alright but the inner buns failed superbly. However, the nasi lemak was quite good with proper fluffy coconut rice, delicious sambal packed with umami, well complemented with a lot of anchovies and peanuts. I added roast pork but it served no purpose to elevate the dish. The price was typical of a kopitiam of these type but the polo bun was just unforgivable as it was one of their signature dishes.
