Out of it's 44-year history, I have frequented this place for 40 years, and still do, which is probably testament enough as to how good the Teochew-style braised duck is. Located just next to UOB at State in PJ, the duck rice, which starts from 3:30pm in the afternoon gets to enjoy the availability of parking in the evenings and night, which, during the course of a normal business day, is always an impossibility. The reason why so many tables and chairs are placed outdoors is due to the lack of space indoors. As there are only about 5 ot 6 tables inside, it's also much cooler to dine alfresco, unless weather takes a bad turn. The braised duck is one of the best ever, hands down, I have ever tasted. Succulent, juicy and tender duck meat bathed in the sauce which is never too salty, unlike other places, is the highlight. You can also add on other dishes as well, including the duck intestines, braised mushroom, pig trotters, vegetables, braised hard boiled eggs and much more. There's also double boiled soups now as advertised on a banner just outside the shop, which I didn't notice until as I was walking away. The stall is large, taking up almost 1/3 or the entire coffee shop. With its large number of helpers, food arrives quickly after ordering. You also have a choice of either rice or porridge to go with your dishes. I've always preferred the rice, since it's very much like the ones from chicken rice stalls. The porridge is also a popular item, topped with some sesame oil and soya sauce. The pictures attached to my review are from a recent visit with 4 other friends. With all this food, the bill amounted to RM101, only RM20 per pax for the amount that we had, which, we all agreed, was super reasonable. In the evenings, there's also a satay stall which serves pretty good satay as well. Give it a try too.

Kam Heong coffeeshop at PJ State has my favorite Wantan Mee stall which I have been a loyal customer for many years as long as 25+ years. Their current stall location at Kam Heong coffeeshop is the 3rd one over so many years as they had shifted three different locations. I love their Wantan Mee as the texture and taste of the noodles is slightly springy, mixed with dark sauce and soy sauce and other essential cooking and sesame oils to give it their signature taste. And the Char Siew is barbecued to perfection and giving it the right smokiness flavour that makes the key ingredient a perfect combination to the noodles. I always request for “char siew thau”, as that’s where the charred bits are the most aromatic. 😆 Other popular hawker fare here are the Penang Hokkien Mee, Curry Mee and Chicken Rice. These aforementioned popular hawker foods are available from breakfast to lunch hours. During the evenings, another popular favorite with the masses are the braised duck rice. It is always packed every evening and they sell out quite fast. Popular biz hours are from 6.00pm to 8.00pm. After 8.00pm, there’s a high tendency that the braise duck would have sold out by then. So, go early to avoid disappointment. There is a side stall selling Satay which is quite popular also, as customers wait for their braised duck orders. Address : 8, Jalan Tengah, Bandar Baru Petaling Jaya, 46200 Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Biz hours Breakfast/ Lunch : 7.00am to 2.00pm Dinner : 5.30pm to 8.30pm Tuesday, August 02, 2022

There are several famous food here but most notable one would be their braised duck rice. I have visited in the past and decided to come again today. Normally the queue and parking would give me a headache but somehow today the situation wasn't the case. Upon seated, the staff came to take our order. We got ourselves the quarter braised duck and I specifically requested for the lower half for that tender juicy meat goodness. Eggs are always a good compliment to the dish so that's what we ordered too. This time we did not go for their braised pork leg as we wanted to order the relatively well known satay too. It didn't take long for the food to be served and immediately the beautiful fragrant of the rice hits me when I take the first bite. The duck meat was flavorful and somewhat tender. The thick rich gravy nicely coats the duck and it's aromatics offered a complex profile as opposed to the common soy sauce garnishing. Some may find it to be bit too salty so I can recommend to pair the gravy with your rice. We also had a mix of chicken and beef satay. While I wouldn't say that they're the best I had, it was still decent enough in my opinion. I would recommend the beef over the chicken because it had nicer caramelization and char. Oh and that fat chunk sandwiched between 2 cuts of beef on a skewer hit the right spot for me. The peanut sauce was thick like it should and offered that sweetness to go along with your savory satay.

Review is for the evening vendors only - Braised Duck Rice & Satay. The braised duck stall has been in operations in this part of town for decades. Family has dined here countless times since I was a kid and it's still going strong and tastes consistent. Definitely get the braised duck, the salted vegetables and the braised mushrooms to pair with their rice. They also have the option of choosing or adding a bowl of rice porridge in lieu of rice for those that prefer it. And don't forget their chili. Overall, food is very satisfying and comforting—similar satisfaction to eating a nice plate of Hainanese chicken rice. The store gets very busy in the weekends and will definitely have a bit of a wait for a table but it's well worth it. As for the satay, my family never orders it usually and we tried it again in our recent visit (May 2024) and unfortunately it's pretty mid. Not the best out there but I guess if you're craving satay, it works. Beef was nice but had parts that were tough, chicken was okay. They skimp on the cucumbers & onions so wasn't a fan. Optional and up to you if you want to order. Good for if you feel like eating satay, but don't expect mind blowing good satay.

Type: Chinese Kopitiam Signature: Prawn Mee and Curry Mee Place is clean and comfortable and surprisingly cooling. The chicken rice (4 🌟) here is good.. Meat is soft and tasty, and even the free ABC soup is good. Tried the popiah (from the dim sum stall) 4 🌟 which is delicious...it comes with crispy fried stuff blended with tasty ingredients. Their dimsum is also good.. Siew mai and the steamed dim sum (4 🌟) is nice and delicious. We even tapau some. The Wantan Mee (4 🌟) is also good.. I like the tasty Wantan. Mee is a bit hard but overall it's good. Surprisingly the Signature curry mee here... is average only (3 🌟) as the mee is a bit overcooked. Curry is too waterish and honestly.. I think u can get much better curry mee outside. The Fried Kuey Teow is good too (3.5 🌟).. It's nice but the Siham (corkerals) is small but flavour is pretty good. Overall, the place is packed during breakfast and lunch... Especially on a weekend (took us 15mins just to find a table). The Cham Ice here (4 🌟) is not bad too... Will definitely come back again. Battle of Braised Duck Part 2 - Duck & Dessert.. 2-in-1 It was more like a coincidence that we dined at this famous braised duck restaurant. I've been hearing a lot of positive reviews on this age old braised duck restaurant which sometimes sold out by 7-8pm. Initially we wanted to eat dessert at this YDT Dessert only to realize that Kam Heong Braised Duck is right next to it. The boss even told us that YDT belongs to them and we could order their duck and eat it there. Music to the ears - we ordered a single portion of the duck and the rest was history. I came here twice ◾Braised duck was probably the best that I had so far. Half duck was walloped instantly by everyone. ◾Braised intestines & gizzards had no foul taste to it. I felt like eating Chinese style foie gras. ◾Braised pork trotters could stand tall against the more famous duck as the meat had this fall-off-the-bone texture with same sauce. ◾Sides - salted vegetables had this aromatic flavour from pork lard (must order this!); while braised egg & mushroom were good. ◾They had oil rice, or porridge to choose from.
