I (we) have been a supporter and regular over the years to Kar Heong SS4 branch. I initially always had high respects for Kar Heong SS4, and their staffs, and even left a 5-star review before 2 years ago about the "gangster looking boss who is actually a very nice man", and always had high praise about their food.
But TODAY'S EXPERIENCE, around 2.45pm, left my family DEEPLY AWKWARD and honestly SICK TO THE STOMACH. I can't even tell you how EMBARASSING and SADDENING it felt for us. (Considering the fact we thought the staffs were actually nice people, but apparently NOT).
I'm forced to leave this review because I think the boss or manager behind this Google account should know about what happened to us today. (The Uncle boss was not there when this happened).
We are a family of 3 (currently our 2 year old daughter). - And long story short, when we eat, our daughter would sometimes drop food or rice around on the table.
Since we've been a regular here over the years, we've always tried our best to clean up after ourselves and our baby - THAT INCLUDES : Picking up rice on the floor whenever our baby drop any / Picking up rice and food on the table whenever she drops any / Basically this means having to use their provided tissues, which are of thin quality (No complains, by the way). And when it's THIN, we need to take twice to use to pick up food. SO, if you have or had a child before, I AM SURE you would understand what I mean. AND AFTER ALL THESE, we would PURPOSELY GATHER ALL TISSUES AND BONES onto our plates, in respect to the workers.
SO, WHAT HAPPENED TODAY?
After I've done gathering all dropped food, bones and tissues onto our plates. Removed the double chairs (used for my baby) and placing it back to the other table, and finally managed to sit down and relax with my baby while she finishes her last spoon of food.
ONE of the main waitress (fair lady, usually manning the cashier when boss isn't around), SUDDENLY walked over to our table, pointed to the tissues on our plates, and WORD FOR WORD, THIS IS WHAT SHE SAID TO US IN MANDARIN, IN A LOUD AND VERY SARCASTIC AND STRICT TONE (Owner, please take note, there were other customers around us hearing this while we got scolded) :
SHE SAID (in Mandarin) : "Next time, please bring your own tissues ah! You see all these tissues (pointing to the tissues ON OUR PLATES) , and those tissues (pointing to the 2-3 tissues on the floor)."
And she walked away.
We were absolutely left Shocked and Speechless, because this waitress would usually smile at us and was friendly, even today, before the shocking incident happened.
2 out of 3 of those tissues on the floor are NOT OUR TISSUES, it was already there when we sat down. 1 of those tissues that we accidentally dropped were BLOWN OFF THE TABLE due to your strong fans (and thin light tissues). We didn't even realized our tissue dropped on the floor, as we were so busy handling our hyperactive 2 year old through-out the whole meal. And when I finally managed to sit down and hold my baby and relax for not even 1 minute, we got scolded. - DID WE REALLY DESERVE SUCH UNFAIR AND EMBARASSING TREATMENT?
Sure, I would admit we use more tissues than your usual customers (maybe).. But is this even ETHICAL and PROFESSIONAL customer SERVICE for communicating (scolding/sounding) us?
Your tissues provided are thin, we have no choice but to pull twice just to wipe anything. And I'm not even being unreasonable about this.
Dear Kar Heong SS4 Owner, you really need to take a hard check at what your workers are doing behind your back, when you are not around. And who they are filtering out from your business for their own personal agendas or reasons.
I know losing one customer like us may not mean much to you, but this is NOT about ME at all.. This is about YOUR DIGNITY as a Boss/Owner.
You can inform your workers that we won't be stepping foot into your shop ever again, I'm sure they'll be very happy about it.
All the best to you and your business. Thanks for the good times,...
Read moreAs a coffee shop, this chicken rice place was a hit for us. We even forgot to take pictures! The steamed half chicken for the 3 of us was big and meat was not as typical oily chicken that you find in regular shops. There was a choice of chicken rice (which was surprisingly tasty and not oily) and normal white rice. We ordered the bean sprouts and they were plump and juicy, again healthily cooked and not soaked with sesame oil. We had a small dish of "siu yoke" which had a bit too much fat and hence not much to speak about. However the skin was nice and crunchy. For drinks we had the buah long long which was great pairing with the chicken rice. Last but not least the chilli looked a trifle watery but it certainly packed a punch so was a great compliment to the chicken meat. A great place to go for a meal by yourself or with...
Read moreCafes surrounding kar heong chicken rice shop were packed with young people eager to eat, whereas kar heong chicken rice shop was empty and desolate.
I ordered roasted chicken rice because I wasn't feeling particularly wealthy. To my surprise, it was bland and tasteless, a total letdown.
The chicken tasted like a stack of paper shreds, the rice like oily goo, the sauce like black pipe water, and the chilli sauce like red pigmented water.
Service was better than at the USJ branch, but good service cannot compensate for poor food quality.
TLDR: Logically, an old restaurant has more experience in the food business than nearby newly opened cafes; however, has profit taken the...
