First off, the Sang Har Mee is nothing short of sublime. The noodles are prepared crispy and hard, but as the gravy seeps in, it gains a hard but soft and bendable shape. The sizable prawns harmoniously complements the other components of the dish. Even better, you can request for someone to help distribute the portions of the dish to your guests/attendees (I'm looking at you foreigners). Although the dish is pretty pricey for my standards at least, it's not like you're going to be eating this everyday (although the restaurant would prefer you do).
The suckling pig however, yes I do understand that the pig is supposed to be small since it's, well, a suckling pig. But I was definitely not expecting it to look like it was fresh out of the womb. I ordered half a pig, and when it arrived, there was BARELY any meat. I understand. Prices are going up and sizes are going down (look at your average KFC drumstick and tell me that isn't pathetic). But the price for half a pig is around RM300, it's ridiculous. You get a paper-thin piece of skin along with a similarly sized piece of meat below. Now, the size may (honestly) suck, but the flavour and texture is amazing. The skin is extremely crispy and isn't chewy like some other stores; the meat is amazingly soft and juicy. If you're ordering this dish, be sure to savour every bite (although I would prefer to have multiple bites).
My next criticism is the environment, this may be an individual case but it's happened multiple times that I and my family have been here. There would sometimes be flies the size of peanuts that would fly around and wander our table like a child in Disneyland. Just today (which is what prompted me to write this review) a fly flew onto our tofu and got caught in our gravy. At first it was funny to watch this insect struggling to fly away but then horror immediately struck when we realized that a fly just FLEW into our meal. So, we used the back end of the serving spoon and scooped it out. It died immediately. Then afterwards, a whole new insect flew in, it was the bug that usually sticks to light with those big wings. It straight up descended from the heavens onto our table before going to god knows where. It seems that this restaurant's food isn't the only thing they have variety in.
(I have attached a photo of the fly (do not rest in peace little one))
The service, although the workers are very friendly and attentive (hard to find nowadays), my only criticism is that the dishes do not come out all at once, or at least follow one after the other. We had to wait for at least 10 minutes before the second dish came out. But, I do understand that the restaurant may be packed and the chefs are working hard. Other than that, the service is, once...
Read moreTo those who love sang har noodle (freshwater prawn) especially in PJ, the name Green View is synonymous with this delectable crustaceans. Truth to be told, my last visit here was many many moons ago when I brought a dear friend of mine to savour the famous noodle. Before that I'd come here a few times too and back in those days I remember how good the noodle was especially when it was drenched in the thick eggy sauce.
Nowadays many restaurants have perfected this noodle and with so many choices around, naturally I had almost forgotten about Green View until Jacky organised a dinner here one evening. ◾We armed ourselves with Laboriel blanc de blancs and Sancerre plus an outstanding Vermintino wine brought by one of our wine supplier. Perfect pairing with our dinner! ◾The sang har noodle was the first dish to be served - while the prawns were fresh, the feedback from the group was that the sauce was somewhat bland and uninteresting (it was OK for me though). ◾Taufu and vegetable dishes were there to fill in the time and the tummy before the final dish ◾Steamed kelah fish - what a disappointment! Our prized fish was overdone resulting in rubbery meat texture, a mistake that seasoned restaurant like Green View should not make. The only thing they did right was the fish scales which they used to deep fry and coat with chilly and pepper. Addictive stuff
Our discussion after the dinner was about which restaurants in nearby vicinity make better version of the sang har... with Sweet Inn (Damansara Kim), Extra Super Tanker (Damansara Glo) and Unique Seafood (Jalan Kemajuan) mentioned! I bet that they won't return to this restaurant...
Read moreBeen going there for almost a decade for family dinners during CNY. Service at times are atrocious and please have patience and check your bills as they may sell you a package with the list if items you paid for more and give you something cheaper in return without explaining. They just ruined our CNY reunion dinner. Not only did food not appear in order for all tables (we occupy three tables) for almost every single dish we have to tell them it is wrong. Just need to have loads and loads and loads and loads of patience when dining here. Kudos to some old timer staff though for knowing how to mend the Fort and do better at servicing the customer. If you see some cockey nor smiley youngsters mending and sitting there staring at you with eagle eye or servicing them, do give them some chance, Those are owners children who just have loads to learn from the seniors. They charged and took cash for of 1000 ringgit for CNY dinner but during the servicing of last two dishes they changed and shoved food at our table without informing us of the change. They change to a cheaper dish and if not for our persistence in asking for a breakdown and finally said we will report to consumer affairs department they did not want to apologise for their mistake. They finally gave a discount but still the ordeal of having to state our rights for a good 15 to 30 minutes was not a CNY we wanted. They ruined the mood for CNY. Maybe should just go for non CNY...
