It is safe to say that my family and I are loyal patrons of this restaurant. We were first attracted to this restaurant due to the impeccable service provided by the Filipino waitress. She always greeted us with a smile yet maintained respect and professionalism.
However, I am appalled and aghast at our experience today. First and foremost, when we walked-in in the afternoon, asking to book for a place in the later evening, the waiter quickly told us that was no available tables for the rest of the day, and he moved on with his work, leaving us standing there. But, to my utter shock, when we texted them through WhatsApp to book a table, we were told that there would be tables for reservations. We brushed that off, thinking it was just our luck and showed up at the restaurant later at the evening. Mind you, we even invited 2 guests to come and join us to enjoy what we then thought was a restaurant wih amazing service. When it was time to order, the waiter said, and I quote, "make it quick guys," with a little laugh. We were quite shocked as we had just sat at the table. Then, before we left, we politely asked a waiter to help us take a group photo and he said he would return after settling another table's bill. But he never returned.....
Overall, our advice is, go to Spitalfields for the right experience, only when the Filipino waitress is there. If she's not there, I suggest you come back another day as the waiters are just not up to par. It's a pity, the food is good, the ambience is good, but watch out of who's serving you....
Read moreSpitalfields is set up to make you feel like you're dining in London but it falls short in its service. Wonderfully decorated with some Victorian architecture, the interior is quite lovely with comfortable seating and good music.
Brunch is only served on weekends, and since it is a Sunday noon, we decided to dine in brunch (although only getting one breakfast dish haha). The soup of the day was pumpkin soup (RM11). Quite a good portion, didn't taste bad but not very good either. The Great Breakfast (RM27) was much better and the pork sausage was definitely the best part of the dish. We decided to try the Slow Roast Pork Loin (RM35) upon recommendation and it was... Relatively good, quite tender. Could it have been seasoned better? Maybe. But I did enjoy it with the mint sauce and the fries were deliciously crispy.
However, the problem with this place is probably the service. The waiter seemed a little lost and almost confused our food order. We didn't order any drinks and he didn't even offer to get water for us and we had to ask for it eventually. But really... Our food took about 30 minutes for breakfast to be served. A bit too long considering we were the only table to serve at the time.
Overall, I would be willing to come back to try the other dishes here although it is a little on the pricey side (pastas are above RM30). Just hopefully the service improves...
Read moreI was here yesterday the 29th of March 2018 with my wife (as we have been many times before). This time though, we were really dissapointed with the service levels. I ordered a Duvel Ale, my wife a green tea. And some food. The tea came without problems but when the waitress brought my ale over she poured out a glass that was all head (foam) and no ale. She obviously didn't know how to pour. I politely asked that she bring me a fresh bottle as she had ruined the first. She went back in with the glass but a guy then comes out with the same glass and puts it in front of me. I politely refused it and asked for a fresh bottle. And he just stares at me, clearly showing his displeasure. I look at him for a couple of seconds after which he grabs the bottle and goes back in. I walked out.
I could not understand his conduct. When one goes out for an evening, one is paying for the service and ambience as well as food and beverage. It would be far cheaper to stay at home and have an ale or even dinner. We go out to enjoy the evening. We certainly do not go out to experience rude and boorish behaviour. Sad, as Spitalfields was one of our regular haunts but if this is how your staff conduct...
