Sushi Zanmai Paradigm Mall PJ — Restaurant in Petaling Jaya

As soon as we were seated, the waiter ask for our drinks order but we haven't even look at the menu nor know what drinks they have. I'm not a regular and was there with family ( elderly and children) to celebrate an occasion. So, I ask for the menu but he simply walk away. I thought it must be an online menu style since there was a QR code piece of paper on the table. As we have elderly , it was difficult for us to look at the phone. I had to get up and take the menu myself. When I say the waiter walk away , he walk far away from where the menu is, our table was just behind the cashier. After submitting our online order , we realized the drinks online section are all sold out so we had to press the call button to order drinks. I ordered two cups of green tea ,even gesturing the two fingers, yet they came back with 1 cup only. I had to buzz them again to get another cup. As we have young children ( plural) , often server will offer children cutlery or at least fork and spoon, I buzz again to ask for the latter.If sushi zanmai do not want to offer server service, then ensure the online service or app is fully working or all cutlery is available and enough, instruction on how to order is clearly stated on the table instead of letting customer figuring out themselves. All review here for the past 1 -2 years had mentioned slow service,it is indeed slow and i did see the sign of 30mins waiting right at the reception so i already had my expectation set but i wasnt in a rush. Food wise, slices of fish meat on sushi is way too thin to taste it, ratio of meat to rice is off. Teppanyaki way to salty even if eaten with rice. I usually love Sushi Zanmai but this branch really have some questionable quality. The first unpleasant experience was that one of the pieces of chicken karaage in my curry udon was just straight up raw. I had it in my mouth and was wondering why I couldn't bite it in half. Then when I brought this up to the server, they said the meat colour is just marination. Mister, you did not have this in your mouth, believe me when I said it's raw, it's not even slightly cooked! The server didn't even apologize and just took it away. And billed me in full later for the meal.

The second unpleasant experience was a different visit. A friend of mine ordered a sushi platter. And it never arrived. All the rest of us 4 had our food already and finished them. Even the slow eater was finishing his meal, the sushi platter still haven't arrived. It's not like we didn't remind them either, we did once. When we told them to cancel the sushi platter because my friend was upset and wanted to leave so she could get other food outside, they tried to push the sushi platter onto us, said it's almost done. If it's not in your hands we want it cancelled please, no excuses!

Very slow services and unprofessional servers. I would have understood if you came to inform us an ETA for the very late sushi platter, but nothing?? And raw chicken is a pretty serious mistake as well, I could have gotten very very sick. Not sure if I want to come back to this Sushi Zanmai anymore, would rather go Sushi...

Sushi Zanmai is located on the 1st Floor of Paradigm Mall, PJ.

Ambience : ☆☆☆☆ It's a modern Japanese eatery with serene yet contemporary settings. Bright lightings with some traditional Japanese decor. The seating area was spacious and comfy.

Food & Beverage : ☆☆☆☆ There is a variety of selections for sushi, maki, donburi, tempura, etc Making it very difficult for us to choose as we wanted to try many items. Desserts such as ice cream are also available.

Taste & Quality : ☆☆☆☆ Food was freshly made and flavourful. The use of fresh, high-quality ingredients was evident. The presentations were also impressive and colourful.

Service : ☆☆☆☆ Staff attended to us immediately when we walked into this outlet. Menus were given, and hot green teas were served. We had to order via their app on our mobile. We also didn't have to wait long till our food arrived.

Price : ☆☆☆ The price is slightly at the higher end. That could be due to the quality and ingredients.
