Absurdity Pricing of Tansen Izakaya
Oden of both Daikon and Egg are priced at rm7 per pcs , let me ask on which day would you go to a restaurant and see one Egg priced at rm7. Oden Chikuwa if hand made i think is fine but if is not in think establishment needs to rethink their model of pricing. Chirashi don is frozen cuts of akami(tuna), and salmon which is mushy and have fishy taste
"Jibaitang" or their tonkotsu ramen, taste like white pepper pork soup with loads of white pepper sendiments at the bottom ,kinda seems like hawker white pepper pork soup can do a better job. The beans sprout also ruins the taste of the soup , I know in Japan there are places where ramen has bean sprouts init but not directly submerged in the broth or at least their broth is strong enough to cover the smell of the veggie.
Cold cucumber is rm11 ,come on la 1 cucumber you use for the entire dish which only cost rm1 at the very best. Chawanmushi shouldn't be charge rm10 per bowl which is literally diluted Egg and water to 1:3 ratio how many eggs are inside, unless you're using good grade katsuobushi for your dashi but still I don't think is sensible to do so.
Shitake kushiyaki is 5 per stick ,local shitake, i don't think you're establishment will go for japan imported shitake which then the price will make more justible sense but if is local shitake , 1 stick (2 mushroom perhaps) you can buy back an entire 200g shitake pkt from supplier which cost rm3-4 or roughly 12 pcs of shitake.
I am not condemning the establishment, at the very least I think the design of the place do have a reminiscing looks of izakaya in japan and a little vibe to it. But a restaurant at the end is to serve food or at least good taste of food to customer with a sensible price that makes sense not to scam or rob customers money. (If is expensive and the food is good I don't mind ,but you wasted my time to pay a money that I would not enjoy) If a restaurant is all about looks then I think is better to reconsider on opening a showroom with japanese cultures in it and not...
Read moreVisited this Japanese izakaya spot in Damansara Jaya a couple of weekends ago and had a great dining experience. Here's a breakdown:
Ambience ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ The restaurant features traditional Japanese izakaya décor with warm lighting, soft background music, and an open-concept kitchen where you can watch the chefs at work, especially over the grill. The setup really sets the tone for a casual yet immersive dining experience.
Staff & Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️ While the staff aren’t Japanese and the "authentic Japanese hospitality" vibe may be lacking, they make up for it with attentiveness and efficiency. Orders are taken and served relatively quickly, and the team is helpful when needed.
Food & Beverages ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ordering is fully digital via tablet/iPad, which makes the process smooth. The menu is extensive—offering everything from ramen, donburi, kushiyaki, sashimi, maki, to appetizers. The drinks list is impressive too, with a wide selection of alcohol including draft beers, Sapporo, Kirin, Japanese whisky, Saito sake, and Kakubin highball, as well as non-alcoholic options.
Pricing ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Prices are on the higher end. Expect to spend around RM80–RM100 per person if you're having alcoholic drinks, but the quality of the food and drink justifies the cost.
Environment ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It gets quite busy during weekend dinner service, so it’s best to come early. Parking is easier to find before the crowd builds up. Despite the crowd, the ventilation is good—no overpowering grilling smell. The vibe is lively, making it a great spot to hang out with friends.
Final Thoughts 💬 If you're looking to enjoy good quality Japanese food and drinks in a lively setting with decent service, this place is worth checking out. Recommended for those who want to experience the journey of izakaya dining right here in the heart of...
Read moreI am writing in support of my friend, who wrote a review of her visit below. I was the person who highly recommended this place to her and after hearing her bad experience and that no one from Tansen reached out to her via IG or Google, I took part responsibility and messaged the restaurant. Their response took a full 3 days and I accept that as they may not be able to gather their findings of their internal investigation in a timely manner (yup I am myself in the service industry and I know how this goes). What causes me to write this review is that I had to chase them EACH and EVERY time for a reply. Their findings are in my estimation faulty and misleading as they claim the piece of WIRE in my friend's food, which is already a troubling issue, came from a broken noodle strainer and not from scrubbing wire as my friend identified it. Their feedback to the overly salted (as to be inedible) yakitoris is that they will ADJUST the saltiness level to local tastes. This to me is laughable as I had a great experience during my visit 3 months ago and nothing was overly salted. If you take logic and factual data into consideration (meaning, the reviews here by date), you can come to the sensible conclusion that the overly salty food only occurred on the day of my friend's visit. It isn't a "local taste" issue. Tansen truly does not give a darn about their guest experience or even safety for that fact, this sounds harsh indeed but the way they handled this matter leads me to be convinced that they're only here to...
