Ah Pei is BACK!
For those who do not know who Ah Pei is, he's better known as the founder behind Chan Meng Kee SS2. The shop is still around but he has sold the business off with the naming right hence he cannot use the same name.
No wonder he looked so familiar when I walked in to try the famous char siew that was making rounds in social media recently. Taking 2 stalls - one char siu and one curry noodle - I spotted the article featuring him & Axian plastered at the stall.
◾Char siu - I won't say that it's the best but seriously the caramelized pork belly was good. Had to order a separate plate just to savour this. Everyone at the table also gave their seal of approval. ◾Wantan noodle soup - nope, not the dry type but clear soup. Credit to the still QQ wantan noodle where the char siu was served separately. ◾Extra wantan & dumpling (sui kow) - gotta love the generous fillings in the wantan the size of fifty cents, and while the sui kow skin was slightly thick, the filling's flavour hit the spot! ◾Curry noodle - my comfort food and the curry broth tasted good although thinner than I expected. A squeeze of the kalamansi and the flavour upped. Came with fried wantan, pork skin, taufu pok and char siu - no cockles though 🥲 or else it'd be perfect.
Ah Pei was ever present to ensure his char siu quality up to his standard. This kopitiam is bright and clean, and the Teh Si I had was good.. it had the...
Read moreSeeing the advertisement for this shop so decided to come as I have it previously in SS2 the charsiew are excellent that time under shop Chan Meng Kee. Was told that the owner was from they previously. Seems like the SS2 shop sell off to others. Ordered charsiew wantan noodle add dumpling and coke.
The noodle potion are not very large although I ordered large. The noodle taste are good but the noodle tends to clump together. Good touch with pork lard. Charsiew somehow I feel a little bit hard to chew on the lean side of the meat. The charsiew are very balanced ratio of fat and lean meat. Taste are sweet with charred. I felt that in previous shop it was better. This version not bad but just not that excellent. Wantan are small. Dumplings are good. Very well packed with ingredients. Coke taste like coke.
Overall the taste are good. Worth for trying and also they have curry noodle option too. Reach around close to 12 the place are half full but when is 1230 the lunch pack start where it...
Read moreFormerly the famed founder Chan Meng Kee Wantan noodle has reset and started his new venture under Ah Pei Char Siu and Curry Noodle inside this kopitiam. If you missed their delicious styled original CMK char siu Wantan Mee in SS2 (now under different management and different quality)... this is it. The noodle is old school style, with clinged-on minimal sauce but not too salty. Char Siu 5pcs on my plate but they are decent size and well charred pork belly meat for large size plate at RM10. Sweet but not overly honeyed, the bite experience was sufficiently satisfying for a good char siu with the tender meat, fat and the crunchy char outer all done to perfection. Even the soup taste authentic quality. Not sweet not msg.
Come around 8am and que is already building up. Char siu charred to perfection. Not many does as well as this. Try their curry as well. If their former original CMK is anything to benchmark... This should be good. I will try the...
