On Friday 11 April 2025, I was hungry n wanted to get early dinner. I went to this place n I was surprised that they have rebranded the shop n also did some renovation of the interior of the shop. It was quite some time since I last dined here. I heard the boss passed away some time ago n since then the son n his mother took over the reins n manage the shop. The bill board outside the shop was brand new n itâs called Ang Kee Kitchen- all in purple n the Chinese characters are in red. Another surprise change is they now offer a set menu daily except every Thursday when they close cos the night market stalls are set up in front of the shops along the road. The set menu starts from 11.30am - 9 pm . Here they offer their signature dishes too. There are 2 main sets- with noodles n with rice. All comes with a herbal drink n an ice cream. Itâs only RM18 nett! Worth every cent spent. You should come n try their rice or noodle set ! For the noodle set, thereâs their signature Hokies noodles ( fried Mee or beehoon ) , Cantonese style koayteow,, clam with fried beehoon, fries Loh su fan, clay pot loh su fan n clay pot seafood koayteow. For the rice set, thereâs egg fried rice, rice with dried chilly pork, chicken or fish, sweet sour pork, signature Guinness sauce pork or chicken, 3 flavors pork ribs or chicken, spicy clam , spicy clam with shrimps, butter sauce pork , chicken or fish n shrimp fried with chitterlings . Such an amazing variety of noodle n rice dishes to suit everyoneâs appetite. One thing unchanged is they only accept cold hard cash n nothing else. Thereâs Grab food delivery too. The shop is clean n brightly lit up. There are a few steps leading up to the shop. All their signature dishes ( illustrations) are framed n placed significantly on both sides of the wall. The payment counter is on the left side n on it is placed a happily smiling wooden Buddha with a big belly n both his hands are raised up holding a gold ingot. Since it was early there was only a lady customer enjoying her early dinner too. Two large round tables were already reserved by their customers. On the left n right at the back are 2 large fridges n next to one of the fridges is a long freezer where meat , seafood n other highly perishable ingredients are kept fresh. I notice another significant difference - the shop is open from 11.30 am - 9.30 pm . There is no interval when they used to close at 3 pm n then only reopen at 5 pm. So you can walk in any of those times to get really freshly cooked food the really tastes as good as your own home cooked food. I ordered one pax of their signature fried Hokkien mee n one pax of Cantonese style of fried koayteow n beehoon. Their signature Hokkien mee is really yummy! Both packets cost me RM 50. We enjoyed their...
Read moreHad a craving for Hokkien Mee and came here after hearing some recommendations around. The place is housed in a coffee shop, with the noodle store occupying the whole place at night. The place was simple, akin of other coffee stores.
We had their signature Hokkien mee and claypot whiskey loh mee noodles, both of which were servings for 2 people. When the Hokkien mee arrived, it wasnât hot enough, but rather moderately room temperature. It did not have the signature charcoal wokhey taste that some others places possess. The claypot whiskey loh mee noodles were a bit of a let down. There wasnât really much scent and flavour of the whiskey and Chinese wine. It was more like a regular loh mee without vinegar (or a wan tan hor if you may).
Overall the food is not bad, but itâs not on par with signature Hokkien Mee restaurants out there. I wouldnât recommend getting the loh mee, as that was quite...
Read moreAn institution in the SS2 area as far as restaurants are concerned, having been in the area for decades now. Located in the matured neighbourhood of SS2 and along a very busy row of shoplots, parking is quite a chore, no matter the day or night.
It's a very simple decorated restaurant. In fact, there's no decor at all. I like that, cause you're not paying for the owners to recoup their investment in the decor!
The favourites there have been there for years - the Lala meehoon, hokkien mee, the three flavoured spare ribs or Guinness spare ribs, kangkong belachan, claypot towfoo, all favourites that you will see most tables order. And you can't go wrong with these.
Prices are just a little above average, not expensive, but not cheap either. This is based on portion size, as a small pork ribs can cost about RM27! But, it's worth it. If you've never been here, just come and...
