Read moreTorii Teppanyaki at IPC Shopping Centre is a small outlet tucked away on the LG floor among other F&B spots. I went on 03/08/25, Sunday during lunch. While there weren’t many patrons, all the prime seats were taken, so we ended up at the bar, watching the cooks work the teppanyaki grill. Despite the size, the place feels cozy, though depending on where you sit, you might be overlooking the busy foot traffic outside.
We ordered the Chicken Teppanyaki Set and the Chicken Katsu Curry Don Set (with added omelette), plus a side of Chicken Karaage. The Chicken Teppanyaki was perfectly cooked, with rice and side dishes that complemented the main nicely. It was fresh off the grill, and the green sambal — very Malaysian but surprisingly fitting — was delicious and tied the whole dish together.
The Chicken Katsu Curry Don was equally impressive. Served on a sizzling plate, the curry came on the side, and when poured over, it bubbled instantly, making the whole dish piping hot. The chicken katsu was tender and crispy, pairing perfectly with the curry. The rice (brown rice, I think) was slightly plain but worked well with the rich curry, and the portion was quite generous. The omelette covering the rice was soft, fluffy, and made the dish look beautiful. I really loved this one.
The Chicken Karaage was good quality, though nothing standout compared to the mains. Surprisingly, the highlight for us was the adzuki bean mochi! Incredibly soft, tender, and not overly chewy, with a sweet but balanced filling. We enjoyed it so much we ordered extra.
Staff were warm and attentive, and everything came out quickly. Definitely worth a visit if you’re at IPC, highly...
Read moreIt's such a strange experience eating here. Teppanyaki is in the name, so we thought it'd be good and had it the second time we visited.
Teppanyaki chicken wasn't in cubes as you'd expect, and tasted kinda like roasted chicken you'd get whole at supermarkets. The rice that they claim was Japanese definitely was not - it's so dry and hard that you can't pick it up with your chopsticks. The onsen eggs are served cold - not even kidding. Mochi's too sweet for my liking, and miso soup tasted fine but oddly had mushrooms inside. The saba fish from the teppanyaki tasted like it came out of a freezer and didn't defrost properly, and also appears suspiciously re-fried. Both teppanyaki had meat portions like they were for children.
Big reveal - they serve their teppanyaki with a minced cili hijau paste like sambal for nasi kukus.
Their spicy noodles was quite nice, didn't pretend to be authentic. Overall, it feels like a Malaysian restaurant masquerading as a Japanese restaurant, and doing a rather poor job at that. Welp, they still get good crowds so maybe I've just...
