Go Fun Kee BKT Soup (Without Rice) = RM13.00 No Service Charge
When you do a Google Search on Bak Kut Teh in Kuching, this Franchise will usually come up in your result. Throughout my exploration, I do see this "Go Fun Kee" Outlets regularly and of course, the name is really Adorable. "Go Fun Kee", "Go Funky" geddit?
The Outlet that I'm at looks very nicely furnished. Its quite a big place and there are actually many customers within even on a Weekday. The Whole Place has a Modern Retro Funky Cafe look. I liked that they also offer Hot Water to wash your Utensils. This place and Fu Hua which I reviewed previously are the only Eateries in Kuching that I see do this. How Elegant!
BKT is Beautifully Presented in a Mini Claypot and it Smells Amazing! The Broth is Definitely Not as Herbal Tasting like Klang Style, neither is it JB's Simple Soy Sauce based. It is a Strong Saltish Herbly Braised Taste with a Garlicky Undertone.
I don't know what Herb is used but I can confirm this is not Danggui. Its very Subtle, but you can definitely feel its presence. Personally I think this Herb is good for BKT. That said, I feel the Broth did end up being too Salty for me near the End of the Meal and I couldn't Drink it Dry. It feels more like a 卤水 than a 汤水.
The Generous Amount of Pork Pieces were the First to Catch my Eye and there was a Smorgasbord of Everything. From Belly, Loin, Ribs and every other Pork Part you could think of. Even for the Small Sized that I ordered, I feel the Amount is very Generous and almost feels like I'm having a Mini BKT Buffet.
The Pork Pieces while not the Super Soft Melt in your Mouth type are still Soft to the Bite. They do have a Noticeable Piggy Taste but its not too Overpowering. What I like best is that all of them are Beautifully Charred with a Slight Smokiness. This is quite abit of effort here as Pork Pieces for BKT aren't usually Pre-Charred like this.
Also, you know Veggies are usually more than Meat in a BKT right? In this place, the Meat is actually MORE than Veggies! In fact, there really isn't much Veggies if I recall correctly. Hahaha, this is the first time that I see Amount of Meat in a BKT actually Outnumber the Amount of Veggies!
Overall, I would say this is a Very Well Designed, Well Crafted and Very Generous with Ingredients Bowl of BKT. Highly Recommended and the price RM13.00 (S$4.00) with No Service Charge is Well Worth the Money.
While I think Klang Style is still the Best, this Kuching's Go Fun Kee BKT don't lag too far behind. Amusingly, the Friendly Staffs revealed that actually their Lady Boss is a Singaporean! Hahaha, so theoretically, I've actually been eating a "Singapore BKT" all along?
Highly Recommended!

Read moreThis is a famous local Chinese Bak Kut Teh chain with many branches in Kuching. This branch had my highest visiting frequency because of its location. Food options, quality and price are similar with the other branch. The specialty is that they sell bean curd here under the name 表哥豆花. There are many flavors and different toppings available to choose from.
Service is nice as well, and they serve quite fast compare with the other branch. However, during last visit to purchase the beancurd only for take away, it took quite a long time, because the staff are very slow...
Read moreThere is like 2 tables occupied by the time I arrived. Waited for almost 10 minutes for them to take my order, but still NO one come to take my order. One of the waitress was cleaning up tables & saw me. Come to ask if I already ordered or not, and I said not yet. Still don’t want to take my order.
And then I walked up to the counter and ordered my food instead. When other people come; they take their order instead!!
If it happens once, I would not mind. But, this happened twice already for me at the same shop but different time.
Food is good, but...
