I've went in very last minute from their closing. But they accepted me and did what they can do best for me. I saw Korean guy and his wife were working in there too. So I quite expected very much.
My choice was Korean soy bean paste stew(된장찌개) and overall it was very similar with Korean food, but it wasn't. Overall, this franchise is localized Korean restaurant.
The stew was too salty. I mean, when Korean make Jjige, we adjust saltiness by Bean paste, not by salt. But taste of this Jjige was less Bean paste, and the taste was adjusted by salt. Well... The price of salt is obviously cheaper than 된장.. And we don't use squid in our 된장찌개. Prawn and clams are enough. For me, I recommend you to order Beef one instead of seafood.
For side dishes, Kimch was good. I think Kimch was the best dish in my menu. However, other cabbage salad and Cucumber kimch were terrible. They were... just full of sugar. Korean side dishes are existing for eating with rice, not for dessert. Obviously they need to check the taste before serving to the customers.
I'm not sure the Korean in the restaurant tried all those menu but it wasn't my taste. And the price is quite expensive as like other Korean restaurants. I don't think I'll visit again but it was nice trying. And please, don't clean the floor with broomstick when customer is still eating in the store.... But all staffs were helpful and nice. It was a...
Read moreSeems like many of the reviewers here have problems at this restaurant. As for me, I have been going to Sopoong for so many years (at a different favorite outlet). Been to many Korean restaurants since teen years and I would say I really like their Kimchi and Kimchi Jigae. I especially love their Pajeon, but the kids love their Kimchi Jigae and their soy garlic fried chicken (which is okay for me). We recently tried their Kimchi fried rice, it was okay, but I will usually come for the usual. It's not the fancy Korean kind of restaurants, but for a frequently-go lunch/dinner fix, this is the place to be compared to the other Korean restaurant in Tamarind Square. I totally love the humbleness of the food and the services here. Never had problems sitting outside as we rarely sit inside. I also collect a lot of points to redeem my free dishes, which is a bonus for me and the kids. Price wise, affordable for frequent visit - compared to other KL Korean fancy restaurants. Also, the Korean couple here (maybe owner) are so sweet and polite. She takes my complain seriously and apologise. The banchan perhaps need a little shake-up, been eating the same banchan for sooooo many years here. Sweet anchovies and Spinach banchan...
Read moreI’ve always enjoyed dining at Sopoong, and their service has usually been great — until I visited the branch at DPulze. I was genuinely looking forward to having ramen, and specifically requested to add an egg when I placed my order. I even confirmed this with the staff.
When the food arrived, the egg was missing. I pointed it out, and they took the bowl back to fix it. What came back was not what I asked for — instead of a proper soft- or hard-boiled egg, they just scrambled some egg into the soup. Honestly, who adds egg just for it to be broken into bits in the broth? That completely ruined the taste and experience.
To make things worse, the environment was extremely hot and stuffy — no air-conditioning, poor ventilation, and uncomfortable to sit in. The staff seemed inattentive and untrained, and overall, the whole experience was frustrating and disappointing. They even charge us the 10% service fee without service anything.
Definitely not returning to...
