We ordered the Lo Mai Kai (Chicken Glutinous Rice), Egg Tarts, Braised Chicken Feet, Har Gao (Steamed Prawn Dumpings), Beancurd Skin Chee Cheong Fun (Fishball filling), and Luo Hon Chai Chee Cheong Fun (vegetarian).
Overall we felt the dishes were a little subpar considering the prices (and seemingly good recommendations by some locals). The egg tarts were somewhat forgetable. The Chee Cheong Fun variants were interesting and tastes above average but were not memorable. I usually prefer the black bean sauce version of braised chicken feet, and despite my love for spicy food I find the braising sauce too sweet and not spicy enough. The Har Gao is fresh and decently sized but it's hard not to compare with 'that other famous Ipoh dim sum place' that still uses larger prawns despite the notable quality drops over the years.
The Lo Mai Kai though, is on a different level. There is a strong flavourful fragrance permeating though the very unassuming exterior. The chicken is also still tender and moist. My guess is the sauce the glutinous rice is cooked in probably has a high fat percent, but what is life without sinful food.
Overall I would give this place somewhere near the 3.5 mark or slightly lower. My verdict? Just take away the Lo Mai Kai and avoid the...
Read moreVery rare would I rate a place with a 5 star but this dim sum restaurant deserves it!
Food is great from taste perspective and also from it’s uniqueness. Tip: order all item with the thumbs up icon Toilet is clean. Usually a place to avoid in local restaurants Handicap ramp right in front of the restaurant. Though the car parking space right in front of the ramp kinda defeats the purpose. But I think Ipoh folks are great as I see the parking space was actually left empty
The order chit is all in Chinese but fear not, the numbering system matches exactly to the menu with pic of the items for your selection
All dim sum items are bite size and just enough. Price is slightly pricier than other dim sum place but quality is definitely better...
Read moreMy family always comes here to eat whenever we are back in town! Best thing on the menu would have to be their egg tarts, seconded by the har gao/prawn dumpling, those are must-gets. Their liushabao/ custard bao (yellow) is super super runny the last time we went (June 2025). Menu and order sheet is english friendly. Only complaint would be that the food might be a bit slow at the start but thats bc they serve by the table , once the first dish comes everything will start coming. Parking might be a lil limited. You could find better CheeChongFun at other places. (This place is close to AEON so you could go there to do some shopping or walking, it looks really good right now and has a...
